Simon and Janine are sent on an unexpected journey to the war-torn Middle East after their mother, who for years had remained silent, leaves them post-mortem letters with clues to the family's mysterious past. Their quest to unravel their origins leads them in search of a father and brother whose existence was previously unknown to them. Adapted into the Oscar-nominated film, Incendies, and translated into a dozen languages in over 100 productions worldwide, Scorched makes its West Coast debut at American Conservatory Theatre. The A.C.T. production features David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck) as bumbling notary public Alphonse Lebel, who acts as a guide to the two twins in their search. Learn More

Was very enjoyable. GCT crew always does an admirable job of staging with the limited space available. The leads were great - the actors portraying Curly and Jud were particularly good, capturing and exuding the essence of their respective characters with great showmanship. GCT might want to explore varying the female lead in their productions, however. Although the lead playing Laurie is a very accomplished and talented singer/actress, she's also played the lead on the last two or three productions at the theater. In order to breathe some new life into their productions, they should acquire at least one more female lead and then rotate them to avoid the overexposure of one which can lead to boredom with the company.Written on Jul 13 2009
I'd forgotten how very dated this musical is (I actually cringed in a few places), but it was a well-sung, well-acted, enthusiastically presented production. Bravo to GCT!

We enjoyed the show very much. Thought the cast was great and the dancing was great use of the small stage.Written on Jun 08 2009

More Information About Oklahoma!
Description

Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story.
Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love's journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant Oklahoma!
