See the immortal James Dean on the big screen as the original rebellious teen in Nicholas Ray's classic 1955 film Rebel Without a Cause. Dean's iconic role as Jim Stark personifies American's cultural image of the high school loner with his slicked-back hair, pouting red lips and slouching in a white T-shirt and blue jeans. In the film, Dean's character bonds with classmates played by Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo (who both earned Academy Award nominations for their supporting roles) to battle school bullies.

A wonderful way to see the classic movies on a full screen, with an introduction to James Dean in the form of a slide show. Also, a bonus to have a verbal introduction & printed material to take with you.

It is no wonder that James Dean is a legend. His depiction of the troubled teen was flawless. His portrayal of a "bad on the outside but really good" was deeply affecting.
Most of the rest of the cast, except Sal Mineo who was superb as a tragic youth, was really camp & over-the-top, but amusing. The film is laughable where not intended to be because it is so dated, but it lends a certain charm to the 'innocent 50's'.

Also a shout-out for the Alex Theatre - a beautiful, comfortable venue that warmly welcomes its film guests. Please support it!

The Alex Theater was a beautiful venue and the Film Society put together a really fun set of speakers, previews, and raffle prizes. If you get a chance to go to one of their events, I recommend it.
