The Alex Theatre (Glendale, CA)
Rated 3.3 by 6 members who went.
The award-winning Musical Theatre Guild, a company of professional performers who present concert-staged readings of seldom seen musicals, presents the 1973 musical Seesaw for one night only at the historic Alex Theatre. Seesaw tells the tale of a slightly square, not-quite single lawyer from the Midwest and an off-kilter would-be-dancer from the Bronx.

Music is RANDOM! Performers were great and committed.
Costumes, set ideas, lighting design were all lacking. I've seen so much better from MTG!
High points of the evening:
Hearing the high school groups completely invested in the story
Seeing Jason Alexander in attendance: Thank you Jason for Reprise!
Looking forward to much more from MTG.

I like seeing rarely performed musicals so this was a treat. MTG does it again.

Wonderful performances-quite believeable and it was definitely a musical in need of revival. The cast gave it their all! A noteworthy production!

Seesaw was tremendous. For a reading in hand, it couldn't have been better. I thought the acting, singing, dancing, casting, and fun props....were all really swell. It was fun too seeing a musical that is not mounted much these days.
But it's all a moot point, because this was a one time only reading unfortunately, for those of you who couldn't attend.

The great thing about the Musical Theatre Guild is that you can see these shows that are never done and get an idea of what they were like--and maybe why they're never done--or think "why isn't this done more?" They are always extremely well sung. The cast was excellent, and though the show is dated and not great it was exciting to see it and hear the mostly quite good show.

Music by Cy Coleman
Lyrics by Dorothy Fields
Written by Michael Bennett
Based on the play Two for the Seesaw by William Gibson
Adapted from William Gibson’s play Two for the Seesaw to the musical stage by Cy Coleman (score), Dorothy Fields (lyrics) and Michael Bennett (book), Seesaw received seven Tony® Award nominations (winning for Tommy Tune’s performance and Bennett’s choreography) and ran for a total of 296 performances. Seesaw was a show of firsts and lasts: launching the career of Tommy Tune and highlighting the final lyrics of the great Dorothy Fields. Featuring pulsating Cy Coleman melodies (“It’s Not Where You Start, It’s Where You Finish”) and with 1970 era New York as the background, Seesaw tells the tale of a slightly square, not–quite single lawyer from the Midwest and an off-kilter would-be-dancer from the Bronx.
Seesaw will star Eydie Alyson as Gittel, Roger Befeler as Jerry and Steven Hack as David. The ensemble will feature MTG members Danny Bolero, Ron Christopher Jones and Melissa Lyons with guest artists Kari Lee Cartwright, Robyn Cohen, Lindsay MacDonald, Lowe Taylor and Jake Wesley Stewart. Seesaw will be directed and choreographed by Todd Nielsen with musical direction by Dean Mora and is produced for MTG by Eileen Barnett and Pamela Hamill.
