Celebrate the grittiness and style of film noir at a beautiful 1925 movie palace -- the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale -- with a double dose of films featuring car chases and gun-toting dames aplenty. In Gun Crazy, a man becomes obsessed with a sharpshooting femme fatale, leading them both down a dark road of armed robbery, car theft and murder. This essential film noir was filmed on location in Los Angeles, including a bank robbery scene shot in nearby Montrose. The Lineup, set in 1958 San Francisco, stars Eli Wallach as the maniacal leader of a gang in mad pursuit of a group of innocent tourists who've had heroin stashed in their luggage. The Lineup was directed by Don Siegel, who would go on to direct such high-profile films as Dirty Harry. Learn More
Reviews & Ratings
Musical comedy star Mary Martin suggested Yul Brynner for the part of the King in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1951 adaptation of Anna and the King of Siam.
Appearing opposite Gertrude Lawrence during its historic Broadway run, Brynner would eventually appear in the title role almost 5000 times during his forty-year career.
When 20th Century Fox produced its lavish widescreen film version in 1956 it was Deborah Kerr who portrayed the English tutor in the blockbuster hit that garnered nine Academy Award® nominations. Among its five wins was Best Actor for the man who created the part.
Hit songs from the show include “Shall We Dance”, “Getting To Know You”, “Hello Young Lovers” and “I Whistle a Happy Tune”. _
The King And I _is presented in glorious De Luxe color and CinemaScope 55.
