With its hot-house emotions and lush melodies, this Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning musical has melted the hearts of audiences for over 60 years. At once a romantic musical and a deeply felt drama, South Pacific tells the story of Americans stationed in an unfamiliar culture in wartime, a situation as relevant today as when it first thrilled audiences in 1949. Timeless themes such as love, prejudice, happiness and cultural differences are tackled with the help of an immortal score, filled with all-time favorites like "Some Enchanted Evening," "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair" and "Bali Ha'i." This show had some really good points, and some not so great. First of all, it's a really nice venue. The theater itself is small and very comfortable, and seemed like any seat would probably be good. There was a nice lounge area outside with a small bar and refreshments. As far as the performance, we love "Hair" so it was fun to hear all our favorites. Several singers had outstanding voices, especially the actor who played Claude, and the actor who played the pregnant woman (can't remember her name.) Unfortunately, there was a lot of over-acting, and the direction didn't seem very professional, nor did the choreography. The orchestra could have been better also. On the whole we enjoyed the experience, since it's such a wonderful show, and brought back lots of memories. It did, however, make we want to hear the show recorded by actual professionals!
