Five for Fighting is actually the stage name for the singularly talented singer-songwriter John Ondrasik, who'll take the open-air stage with the Ravinia Festival Orchestra for a show filled with hits and music from his latest disc, Bookmarks. The piano-rocker scored a trio of Top 40 hits in the '00s with "Superman (It's Not Easy)," "100 Years" and "The Riddle," from a pair of platinum albums, and continues to write for other artists, including the Backstreet Boys and Josh Groban. He's also a huge hockey fan, who writes articles for Sports Illustrated and for his hometown L.A. Kings -- which explains the name Five for Fighting, which refers to the five-minute penalty doled out by the NHL for brawling on the ice. Learn More
Beautiful picnic park w great sound system. But-- picnic means lots and lots of schlepping! Restaurants are either expensive, have long lines, or awkward/no seating. We either eat before and carry wine in and enjoy it on a bench before show or we eat at restaurant in Highland Oark and carry wine in to enjoy on a bench before show. There are also picnic tables in NECorner if we bring food- then enjoy wine on a bench before the show. No schlepping required to enjoy the lovely place.Singer-Songwriter Lyle Lovett & His Large Band dining • Aug 04 2014 star this tip starred

Rufus Wainright was on first and did a great show. He seemed somewhat put-off that he wasn't billed as the primary act, as he probably should have been. Cat Power was a poor show; unprofessional and a disappointment. Many people left, including us.
About the Ticket Supplier: Ravinia FestivalThere's more to Ravinia than merely the world's greatest music. For as many people who walk through Ravinia's gate each summer, there are just as many ways to enjoy what they call "The Ravinia Experience."
For some, it all starts with a picnic picked up along the way, followed by a hop on the train and greeting your friends at your favorite spot on the lawn. Gradually, day turns into evening, and from the comfort of your perfect lawn spot, it culminates in a great concert by candlelight as you gaze at the stars above.
For others, it's a dinner reservation at one of Ravinia's popular on-site restaurants followed by a casual stroll to the Pavilion, where you go to see and hear the stars on the stage.
Bring your own lavish picnic, treat yourself to an ice cream cone at intermission, or just come as you are and leave the details to them.
Since 1904, Ravinia has been Chicago's "sound of summer," a place where you can meet up with your friends, have a wonderful time and hear some of the greatest music in the world. They've got stars on the stage and stars in the sky, and it's all within your reach. Enjoy!
