Beautiful picnic park w great sound system. But-- picnic means lots and lots of schlepping! Restaurants are either expensive, have long lines, or awkward/no seating. We either eat before and carry wine in and enjoy it on a bench before show or we eat at restaurant in Highland Oark and carry wine in to enjoy on a bench before show. There are also picnic tables in NECorner if we bring food- then enjoy wine on a bench before the show. No schlepping required to enjoy the lovely place.Singer-Songwriter Lyle Lovett & His Large Band dining • Aug 04 2014 star this tip starred

This was the swansong for 2014 RAVINIA SUMMER MUSIC SEASON. As a Ravinia supporter for decades, I always attend the opening an closing performances. Thank you Mr. Saldivar for joining me at tonight's full day of performances. Late Night Catechism (thanks to Goldstar!!) then Five For Fighting at Ravinia. Full Ravinia Orchestra accompanying FFF...this has NEVER been done before, and he was singing songs never performed before! Totally awesome show. Every time those sweet high notes were sung it felt like a HUG!!
It was a perfect night for an orchestral full accompaniment!! I have a new and deepened liking for Five For Fighting. The acknowledgement and thanks and the tribute he gave to the VETS (my Mr. Saldivar) and SERVICEMEN... learning of all his work for the troops alongside Gary Senese was where my appreciation of FFF grew tremendously!!
And, I loved that the two 2 little guys who were in the FIRST ROW but couldn't see because of the piano were acknowledged and brought up on stage! What a sweetheart!!

Ravinia's a beautiful setting and the sound in the pavilion was excellent. John/ Five for Fighting sounded fabulous and the orchestra made it amazing. Love all the story telling which made the songs more meaningful. Teared up when he sang song...continued
About the Ticket Supplier: Ravinia FestivalThere's more to Ravinia than merely the world's greatest music. For as many people who walk through Ravinia's gate each summer, there are just as many ways to enjoy what they call "The Ravinia Experience."
For some, it all starts with a picnic picked up along the way, followed by a hop on the train and greeting your friends at your favorite spot on the lawn. Gradually, day turns into evening, and from the comfort of your perfect lawn spot, it culminates in a great concert by candlelight as you gaze at the stars above.
For others, it's a dinner reservation at one of Ravinia's popular on-site restaurants followed by a casual stroll to the Pavilion, where you go to see and hear the stars on the stage.
Bring your own lavish picnic, treat yourself to an ice cream cone at intermission, or just come as you are and leave the details to them.
Since 1904, Ravinia has been Chicago's "sound of summer," a place where you can meet up with your friends, have a wonderful time and hear some of the greatest music in the world. They've got stars on the stage and stars in the sky, and it's all within your reach. Enjoy!
