Beautiful picnic park w great sound system. But-- picnic means lots and lots of schlepping! Restaurants are either expensive, have long lines, or awkward/no seating. We either eat before and carry wine in and enjoy it on a bench before show or we eat at restaurant in Highland Oark and carry wine in to enjoy on a bench before show. There are also picnic tables in NECorner if we bring food- then enjoy wine on a bench before the show. No schlepping required to enjoy the lovely place.Singer-Songwriter Lyle Lovett & His Large Band dining • Aug 04 2014 star this tip starred

We've been to several John Hiatt concerts over the years at Ravinia, and he and his wonderful band never disappoint. It is obvious that they love what they do, and we were once again treated to a great concert. And it was a treat to be able to see Robert Cray and his band open, as we love their music, but had never seen them in person before. What was disappointing was the level of disrespect shown by the pavilion audience at Ravinia during Robert Cray's performance. Many people chose not to take their seats until John Hiatt's show, and they really missed out on one of the greatest blues bands around currently. And many who were in their seats were noisy and just plain annoying. That made for a challenging listening experience for those of us who are fans of Robert Cray, and who do respect him for his contribution to the blues scene today.
This is an open-air venue. Please be prepared for the weather.
About the Ticket Supplier: Ravinia FestivalThere's more to Ravinia than merely the world's greatest music. For as many people who walk through Ravinia's gate each summer, there are just as many ways to enjoy what they call "The Ravinia Experience."
For some, it all starts with a picnic picked up along the way, followed by a hop on the train and greeting your friends at your favorite spot on the lawn. Gradually, day turns into evening, and from the comfort of your perfect lawn spot, it culminates in a great concert by candlelight as you gaze at the stars above.
For others, it's a dinner reservation at one of Ravinia's popular on-site restaurants followed by a casual stroll to the Pavilion, where you go to see and hear the stars on the stage.
Bring your own lavish picnic, treat yourself to an ice cream cone at intermission, or just come as you are and leave the details to them.
Since 1904, Ravinia has been Chicago's "sound of summer," a place where you can meet up with your friends, have a wonderful time and hear some of the greatest music in the world. They've got stars on the stage and stars in the sky, and it's all within your reach. Enjoy!
