The funeral of Sister Rose Marie, an alcoholic religious disciplinarian, brings together twelve outrageously diverse flawed Harlem characters in this acclaimed play by Stephen Adly Guirgis. Sister Rose Marie may have been a mean drunk of an Irish nun schoolteacher, but she caused her former students to examine the many lessons they've learned from her as they struggle against the tide of their lives, sometimes succeeding, sometimes failing, in doing the right thing. And there's one other complication: somebody has stolen the body. Learn More

This show has a lot of promise and it was very enjoyable, in a quirky kind of way. Especially noteworthy among the actors were those who played Leroy Leroy (we loved his expressions/mannerisms even when he was not speaking) and the 2 robbers. Some of the subplots seemed extraneous and some parts were just too corny--but all in all, a valiant effort and worth seeing, especially if you either have New York roots or are Jewish (and it helps to be both)

A zany, fast paced send up of the 70s, complete with platform shoes, purple velvet and a Jewish reindeer. Excellent, very funny writing with a wonderful cast. Mark Troy knows how to make an audience have a good time and laugh.

A VERY funny show. And more than that... there are things being said in this piece that are very timely. It takes place in the late 70s and there is nothing politically correct about it, but that is the point. People were different, and comedy was different. It's like watching a classic Mel Brooks movie...there is a joke at everyone's expense. It is worth your while to see this show!

This is a VERY funny play by Mark Troy. A wild farce that basically insults everyone....but it takes place during the late 70s when political correctness was not in fashion. The cast for the most part is strong, the direction is great and the set is spectacular! I've never seen such a big production in small L.A. theater.
