My first experience of the Ford Amphitheatre. A very nice intimate amphitheatre. It was a great evening of "paradise under the stars" The dance numbers were beautiful and the singer was a joy to listen. A fun evening of cultural entertainment!Written on Aug 16 2010

Venue perfect for a warm summer night and the entertainment was very good--would rather have the old fashioned hulas instead of more modern but the whole thing was very enjoyable!!!Written on Aug 18 2010

I love Polynesian dancing, love to hear Hawaiian songs - so this evening was right up my alley. I had not been to the Ford in years- it's really quite a lovely venue. Next time I'm bringing a picnic dinner! Both dance groups were excellen, very different from each other - the costumes were INTERESTING, some styles were very new to me. The singer, Natalie Ai, had a beautiful, clear voice- she sang several Hawaiian songs, plus a Streisand song (Evergreen) for a couple in the audience celebrating an anniversary. For those of us who are not too happy with stairs, there is a winding cement ramp to the entrance, plus an elevator to get to the seating level. One of the elevators had a problem at the end of the event, but I assume there was another one. I hope Goldstar will also offer discount tickets to the October polynesian dance event- I'll be there!Written on Aug 19 2010

Description
Escape to Polynesia! The hard-driving rhythms of Tahitian dance contrast with the majesty of ancient hula and the lushness of Hawaiian music. Nonosina Polynesia moves from rapid "oteas" (the hip-shaking dance to the syncopated rhythm of wooden to'ere and other drums) to the song-filled "aparimas" (fast dance to the Tahitian ukulele.) Hoku Hano Hano award winner Natalie Ai's pure, clear voice enchants in original and traditional Hawaiian songs. Hula Halau O Lilinoe evokes Hawaii's deep history with a special presentation of Hawaii's "kahiko" (hulas) and "olis" (chants).
