Lillian Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
Tony Foster's Asleep on a Bicycle paints a trippy dreamscape that features a phantasmagoric Italian diva, an axe-happy Lizzie Borden wannabe, a talking cat, a back-to-the-future child, a martini-mad Mother (who ran off to "live in sin" with her best friend, a not-quite-ex-nun) and much more.

Oneracted. The script lacked any distinct direction.

Terrific performances. One of the few plays whose second act is better than the first.

A little Hollywoodish begining, but with great finale!

Interesting challenging work. Heartfelt. Great set. Some really strong performances especially Maya Parish.

This is one of those gems that that not to many hear about. Just a tremendous performance by everyone. Really nice sets and lighting. The theater itself was quaint and intimate. A great experience all around for me.

Great actors and actresses. The story was surreal and very well acted. I am so glad I went to this show.

This was the epitome of why we love local theatre. Intimate site, touching performances, something we hadn't seen the like of before. The set had us charmed, but the actors and the story were the best part. Now we want to see more from this theatre company, Elephant, at the Lillian Theatre. Thanks!

It was well acted and very clever. The story seems a bit far-fetched, but is so well done that you come out with a good feeling aboutit all.

GREAT production. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed this play. It was incredibly well-written and the venue was just as pleasant and had a very friendly staff. The theatre houses only about 100, which is great because it makes for a very intimate setting between the cast and the audience. The theatre's refreshment stand was well stocked with sodas, bottled water, beer, and nice wine. I've been to a few of these types of small playhouses in the Hollywood area and this was the best experience I've had. I will definitely be going back.

I had a profound and deeply satisfying experience at the theater with "Asleep on a Bicycle" - it's beautifully written, terrifically acted and the production is top-notch. It will renew your faith in Los Angeles' mid-sized theater scene. The Elephant Theater Company is making me sit up and take notice. Go see it. Four preformances left.

"Asleep on a Bicycle" was a great way to start my weekend. It is an original script and a great performance to enjoy. The highs of the evening were the show's levity and creativity, and the show further provided by giving twists and turns that were least expected. If you want to have a good evening at a reasonable price, I highly recommend checking out "Asleep on a Bicycle."

I thought this play was a rare offering in LA, something unique and thought provoking. There were many talented actors involved, but a few standouts: The Italian Moviestar (Maya Parish), made the play for me. Pitch perfect in the comedy and the drama.

Some of the best theater I've seen in years! Stupendous writing and the casting was absolutely perfect. Incredibly well-acted. I thought theater in L.A. was dead until I discovered Elephant Theater Co. Bravo!
Make sure you see this before it closes. It's about everything you hold dear.

Nice intimate small venue. Well acted, creative story line but, the lead characters are not very likable.

Very well written and acted. Many lines were so softly spoken, some in the audience missed much of the cleverness.
Artistic Director David Fofi, who wowed SoCal audiences with his wildly-acclaimed West Coast premiere production of In Arabia We’d All Be Kings (four LADCC awards), and most recently Anything by Tim McNeil (GLAAD nominee) directs a cast that includes Elephant Company veterans. The production also taps the city’s hottest go-to designer, Joel Daavid, for this surreal comic romp.
Foster, one of the Elephant’s most-prolific resident writers, explores a trippy dreamscape that includes a phantasmagoric Italian diva, an axe-happy Lizzie Borden wannabe, a talking cat, a back-to-the-future child, a martini-mad Mother (who ran off to "live in sin" with her best friend, a not-quite-ex-nun), and a day-job in the Hollywood dream-factory.
The play may all be rolling through Linda’s REM-cycles – or not. It may be a cascading vision within Linda’s dying brain – or not. She may have crashed after falling asleep on her bicycle (and launching into the trees off the Gower Street off-ramp) – or not. In this world, reality itself, is a mystery and time a fluid afterthought.
Dipping into his trickster’s bag of theatrical conventions, Foster blurs reality and dream, narrative and mystery. Asleep on a Bicycle is something of a departure for a company better known for its hardcore realism, big political parodies, and off-the-wall comedies. This strange love story, told in a very fresh way, is a wonderfully surreal and original tale that challenges even as it entertains.
