The funeral of Sister Rose Marie, an alcoholic religious disciplinarian, brings together twelve outrageously diverse flawed Harlem characters in this acclaimed play by Stephen Adly Guirgis. Sister Rose Marie may have been a mean drunk of an Irish nun schoolteacher, but she caused her former students to examine the many lessons they've learned from her as they struggle against the tide of their lives, sometimes succeeding, sometimes failing, in doing the right thing. This play was very moving. It opened my eyes to what life was like for not just jews but other "undesirables" and made me realize we take life for granted. The actors really get into their roles. It was amazing.Written on Feb 19 2007
