Terrible amateur stand-up comedy. I love Goldstar and am usually very happy with the events. The description on Goldstar was a bit deceptive in this case:
"Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show), Mary Lynn Rajskub (Mr. Show, The Larry Sanders Show), Jimmy Pardo (The Tonight Show, That 70s Show), Paul F. Tompkins (The Daily Show, Mr. Show), Greg Fitzsimmons (The Tonight Show, Letterman, Conan O'Brien) and Jen Kirkman (Upright Citizens Brigade)—plus more to be announced!—all come together at the cozy, intimate M Bar for an amazing night of comedy."
None of the names listed on this event were there, I think. Whoever they were, only 1 out of 8 was actually funny.
Since it was basically free, I can't complain too much.
According to owner-actor Joe Reynolds, the "M" stands for music, martinis and mangia (Italian for "eat"). Enter through red velvet drapes to find a speakeasy-like interior dripping in dramatic red, from the vinyl booths to the server's micro-miniskirt. The crowd is eclectic and the mood is bohemian--low lighting, high artistic vibe.
