Originally opened in 1998 to bomb threats and protests, Terrence McNally's Corpus Christi is a retelling of the Jesus story set in 1950's Corpus Christi Texas and Jesus is gay. The play treats the subject matter with great respect and the universal message of love for humanity man easily shadows the sexuality of the main character. Typically performed by thirteen young men, this production celebrates the play's message of embracing diversity by casting both men and women of a large age range.

Great performances from a talented cast make this okay Terrence McNally play a go-see. Kudos to MCC-Valley for producing on a shoe-string budget.

  • "The entire cast gives great performances, and its diversity in terms of gender, race and age accentuates the message of inclusiveness in a play that is typically performed by 13 young men. Nic Arnzen’s direction deftly incorporates music and movement into the piece, creating an ending that is almost cinematic in its scope." --LA Weekly
  • "A compelling revisit (that’s) wryly amusing...sharply poignant (and a) heartfelt allegory of love and acceptance.” --Backstage West
  • "Simple yet profound…a peculiar amalgam of bawdy camp and harrowing drama.” --Frontiers Magazine
