God's Gypsy explores the romantic and controversial life of the 16th-century Spanish mystic who became a Catholic Church reformer before she became a saint. Adapted from the award-winning Barbara Mujica's well-researched 2007 novel Sister Teresa, Coco Blignaut wrote and stars in the play, which follows Teresa from her days as a spoiled young girl sent to a convent, through her intense spiritual awakening, to her work as an influential theologian devoted to mental prayer, while also revealing her secret Jewish ancestry, risky political moves during the Spanish Inquisition and more. You have to be into improv... I realized I'm not a fan of it. For what it was, it was well done. The staging is marvelous; the venue is atmospheric and fun.. the ensemble was interesting although they stepped all over each other's lines a lot [which is why I prefer a scripted play I suppose]. A few of the actors were truly worth the price of admission.
