This is my 3rd year at this event. Every year it goes more down hill.
I am going to puke if I see another cup cake... and they werent that good... last year there was a good vendor who made them, but they were absent this year. And one vendor this year sliced his cupcakes in 8 parts... ha ha ha... are you serious?
The ice cream was good, even the cucumber sorbet!
THe added dj was great but would have been better with a dance floor.
hated the room... last year and the year before was awesome.
creme brule was horrible. cheese cake was horrible. anyone with the healthy stuff... this is not a place for you either.
best thing I had was the honey lavender ice cream...mmmmmm.....
and the lattes were very good too.

If you walk out of this event without a belly ache, then you did it wrong!
The Renaissance Hotel is a great place for this event. There were about 20 vendors passing out their treats. Several of the stations had some form of cupcake, but there were also restaurants showing off their high-end desserts. There was also a gelato vendor and two stations with sorbet and ice cream. I was very appreciative of the coffee table and noticed there was a cash bar as well.
All of the desserts were good, well, because dessert is always good, but I wasn't blown away by any of the vendors. I expected a few more tables of really special treats like creme brulee, cheesecake, chocolate lava cake, etc. and fewer cookies and cupcakes.
I talk a big game but I only made it around half of the room before I hit my limit. I am glad Goldstar got me to this event for half price, but I still think it was too pricey considering the dessert options and the small amount of time you spend there.

I was a little underwhelmed by the event. Not as many booths as I had expected. Little variety, the deserts were mostly cupcakes, but the ice cream was delicious :)

I've been to this event in the past and expected a little more. There weren't many vendors, but that's OK -- the vendors who were there had a lot of food, were friendly, and took the time to answer my questions about their treats.
The venue was too big for the event, which is good & bad. It was great that there was room to walk around & plenty of table space. On the other hand, I felt I had crashed the end of a high school reunion since it was in an almost empty hotel ballroom w/a DJ spinning in the corner.
I know it's hard to please everyone and feel the event producers did a good job!

Event was okay. Not sure sure it was totally worth the money though. I was expecting more restaurants and their dessert creations to be featured, such as Cafe del Rey. Their desserts were the best at the event. There were too many vendors with cupcakes.

I know they've had this dessert event in the past and this is my first and only exprience with this company, DRINK, EAT, PLAY.
We were excited to go to this evet; however, thank goodness we got cheaper tickets through GoldStar, otherwise I would have felt even more ripped off. There were indeed desserts, but we had expected a better show case with the about 16 vendors they had. We expected some form of marketing, but it really felt like just a "marketing event" - 1/3 where cup cake vendors, 1/3 "home-made" things like cookies, bars, rice kripies, and there was one creme brulee vendor, 1 cheese-cake vendor, about 2 "ice cream" type vendors, 2-3 chocolate type vendors, and 2 tea/coffee vendors. There was a DJ and a cash bar. The desserts were not spectaculor and we could have replicated some at home. My boyfriend strongly believes that one vendor used Cool Whip as their frosting base. One creme brulee was room temp and the other was liquid creme. There were some "gold nuggets", but not enough to change my mind about the whole thing. There were not many people staying around to socialize, and it appeared that other people went through the event pretty quickly too. We went through the event in about 25 minutes and left.

The desserts themselves were not terrible, but this event lacked innovation. There were at least 3 different booths serving cupcakes! For an event held in the heart of Los Angeles, this evening left quite a bit to be desired. There wasn't a single dessert that had the elegance and ingenuity of a fine dining experience.

Lots of cupcakes, which is weird because I thought D:E:P had its cupcake challenge already this year. Only two or three great desserts. All the rest were dry and not worth the calories. Also, these events seems to bring a lot of people hoping to get their start in the L.A. food scene out of their houses. The majority of presenters had no storefronts where you could buy their product: They'll bake out of their homes and somehow get the stuff to you.
And what's wrong with variety and outside-the-box thinking? Everything was some kind of chocolate dessert or cookie. "Dessert Decadence" makes me think of lavish, artistic, exotic, unusual desserts -- not just another cupcake event.
Overall, it was decent, especially because of the discounted Goldstar tickets. I would have hated to pay the full price for something that took less than an hour to see.

Not exactly what I had in mind. Cupcakes are not what I would call decadence, if you know what I mean. I was expecting more elaborate desserts, more sophisticated environment.

Reasonable variety of desserts, nicely displayed. As most vendors did not have desserts labelled it was often difficult to know what was what although when one got to the front of the line, they were very helpful and informative. Very few desserts there with that WOW factor!. No master list of who all the vendors were. (Too) Loud music.

My favorite dessert of them all, was the Spiced Strawberry Sorbet with balsamic vinegar and black pepper at Carmela Ice Cream. It was wonderful... I was also a fan of the Makin' Bacon Bars by Sweet Square Dessert Bars.
I was disappointed with only a few booths that night, but overall I enjoyed myself at this event.
I would definitely recommend Dessert Decadence to anyone who loves sugar!

This event was both a lot of fun and sort of disappointing. Fun, because I went with some friends and it was just a hoot to enter a room full of desserts. Disappointing because, with only desserts on offer, there was nothing available to cut the sweetness. I drank a ton of water and am not a big dessert drinker, but honestly, I would have happily paid five bucks for a glass of cold milk.
The vendors were for the most part really helpful and their offerings tasty - I know taste is relative and I thought a couple were kind of gross, but not every body like the same things, right? As others have said, I would have welcomed a little more variety.
Having attended the Gold Standard event couple of months ago - where it was crazily over-crowded and over-sold, the large space and limited crowding was a nice surprise. BUT. But it felt very tossed together, not like it had been in the works for a month, let alone more.
Last - and this probably applies to all Goldstar events - I would really appreciate being told more about the logistics of an event. I parked at H&H, so it was only $2, but if I didn't have friends who lived nearby, I might've foolishly parked at the hotel and had to cough up a rent check to get my car back. Once in the hotel, I found the event eventually (heh), but more by accident than design and signage or some kind of directions would have been appreciated.

The event was very organized. I was expecting that there would be more popular LA Bakeries that would participate.
The desserts (for the most part) were delicious and perfectly sized. Most vendors that had cupcakes had a miniature one, so it was a perfect bite.
If I had to make a negative comment, it would be for the first vendor on the right (as soon as you came in, next to the water) which served 'sliced' cupcakes. Sliced cupcakes! Who cuts up a cupcake in 8's? It didn't reflect well on them because the other vendors had miniature cupcakes which looked more delectable. Too bad that they were the first vendor.
It was a great opportunity to try other delectable treats from a variety of bakeries. Unfortunately, none of the desserts stood out.

Good to do once, but I don't think I would go again. I thought that only half the desserts were worth the calories and after about 5 stations, it is difficult to take in more sweets.

This was a great event for dessert lovers - not just chocolate but all kinds of desserts. There were about 3 cupcake booths, cookies, creme brulee, sorbet and gelato, and a couple of really great gourmet kinds of desserts made by local restaurants. There were coffee and tea booths as well. Everything was free with admission, except alcoholic beverages if you decided you wanted that.
My only negative note was that the venue was a little boring. It felt like a business conference room and the decor didn't reflect the fun, foodie nature of the event.

Desserts from different proprietors in the LA area. Tastings to your heart's content. For $30, I would not have gone again. Half the people brought cupcakes, and they are just not that good. Other desserts were so crazy they were not tasty - cucumber sorbet? Eww. Not so good.

There weren't as many booths in comparison to the Cupcake Challenge. Not too much variety in dessert choices either, mostly cookies and cupcakes. Everything was delicious, most especially the gelato from Paciugo (dark cherry flavor) and the eccentric sorbets from Carmela. I'd go again if they had more booths.

I went to this event last year, and it was wonderful. This year, we still enjoyed it, but it wasn't as elaborate as last's. Not as much variety, but overall it was fun!
Thank you, will still go next year, for sure.
