I was under the expectation that this story would build evenly, and as I enjoyed the last scene of the show (with the expected song) I tended to get bored and felt restless for most of the show. I was not too bothered my the accent of the lead male but I was just bore with the use of the set design. The direction was trying to wrap too much story into the constant changing of the sets and back lighting scenes. The music was the greatest disappointment as I would have thought there would be more singing of the original score but only one song was really presented. Although there was a orchastra in the pit , you wondered if they were ever used as half the music was a recording ( or so it felt ). As a whole it was a good story and enjoyed the night out but I would give my friends the fair warning that this production is not Musical Broadway standard.

This show is worth seeing simply for the original and impressive use of the stage effects. The music and singing were very good; however some of the dialog was hard to understand in a couple of spots. The dancing was very good. The dancing of Penny was top notch. My 17 year old daughter was extremely impressed with the lead male vocalist. The male vocalist also received some of the most applause at the end of the performance. I was truly amazed at the stage effects. Ever seen two people swimming in a lake onstage? Clever use of video and a multi layer stage make this a fun show to watch.

I felt that Dirty Dancing was okay until we got to the finale and the curtain call. During "I had the Time of My Life" the energy by the dancers and the audience really peaked.

I felt that the set was too busy and chaotic and the director tried to sell the set more than the play and the acting or singing. I also think that the use of video as a backdrop really diminishes the idea of live theatre.

I agree that the girl who played Penny steals the show with her dancing. The lead male singer has an unbelievable voice.

Lastly, I feel that I'm preaching to the choir, but LA, please leave your cell phones off during the performance. This includes texting. Your little light is extrememly anoying in a dark theatre!
