The performance and music were wonderful. I took my sister (a former New York City Company ballerina) who was visiting with me and she thought the dancers were amazing! She was in awe of their musicality and interpretation of the struggles minorities face today. I truly enjoyed the performance and we were so fortunate to have a beautiful and clear evening to view this phenomenal performance. The lighting was great and set the stage for a perfect performance. Thank you Goldstar for this opportunity!Written on Sep 26 2011

Get show very entertaining with high energy. New form of music with Latin/ Urban dance. I didn't like that the venue was out doors. It got real cool, so go prepared. There was no salsa lessons, just some girls doing their own zumba routines, so don't waste your time getting there early. Food is expensive, eat before you go. Other than that the actual performance was great!Written on Sep 27 2011

It's such a beautiful venue, and in that regard I enjoyed the experience. I didn't love the production. I found the choreography too modern, unstructured, obtuse. It lacked the soul, emotion and passion that I was seeking in what I hoped would be a Latin-flavored experience. The music was not loud enough. The one part where I felt passion was during the "revolution" speech. It came out of nowhere and knocked my socks off. Such a pleasant surprise. Overall, one can't not love a night out at the Ford Amphitheatre - and the price was right. I appreciate the effort of the dancers.Written on Sep 26 2011

Description
Urban Latin dance-theater company CONTRA-TIEMPO premieres a work exploring the politics of food in our culture. Artistic director Ana Maria Alvarez says, “Food is not just the material I put in my body to sustain life, it is a web of relationships, histories, choices and decisions that all impact the world around us.” These complexities are brought to life through the company's fusion of salsa, Afro-Cuban and contemporary dance. With live music composed by César Alvarez, the show also features special guest performances by renowned percussionist Bobby Matos and Martha Gonzalez from the band Quetzal, stunning visuals and delicious movement.
This piece was made possible by support from CounterPulse, James Irvine Foundation, California Community Foundation, Center for Cultural Innovation and LA City Department of Cultural Affairs. Event sponsors are GT Kombucha and Vlado Footwear.
