American Cinematheque presents a double-feature screening of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and Adam's Rib, with a rare appearance by actress Katharine Houghton between films. The 1967 drama Guess Who's Coming to Dinner stars Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn as a couple whose daughter (played by Hepburn's real-life niece, Katharine Houghton, in a Golden Globe-nominated performance) brings home her fiancé, black doctor John Wade Prentice (Sidney Poitier) -- challenging the aging couple's supposedly liberal attitudes. The film was nominated for 10 Oscars. Adam's Rib (1949) also pairs Tracy and Hepburn in what is arguably their funniest performance, as happily married attorneys whose domestic bliss is spoiled when they wind up squaring off in court over a woman accused of murdering her husband.

The aging couple's supposedly liberal attitudes are challenged during one dramatic and hilarious day and evening, which culminates in the last-minute arrival of Prentice's parents and an Irish priest for dinner.
