About Pantages Theatre

In the heart of Hollywood, on Hollywood Boulevard, right down the block from Vine Street, stands the Pantages Theatre. It's a fitting location: The Pantages has become one of the greatest landmarks of Hollywood, signifying both the glorious past and adventuresome future of the world's entertainment capital.

The Pantages has a history as grand and diverse as the stage and screen far... Moree which audiences have flocked to enjoy there for half a century. These days it's one of Los Angeles's leading homes of legitimate theatre (the five highest-grossing weeks in L.A.'s theatrical history were all shows at the Pantages) and a favorite "location" for Television shows, movies and music videos. Hairspray is based upon the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters, with a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Hairspray is directed by Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.

Based on John Waters's hilarious 1988 film, the musical comedy Hairspray stars Marissa Jaret Winokur as Tracy Turnblad, and Bruce Villanch, as her irresistible stage mother, Edna. The musical features an original score by Marc Shaiman (who co-wrote the music and lyrics for the acclaimed animated musical, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut) and Scott Wittman. Their songs take Tracy from the soundstage of a 60's-style dance show to the streets of Baltimore to a downtown rhythm and blues record shop.
