Egyptian Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
The American Cinematheque teams with Wise Guys Events for a high-tech Scavenger Hunt. Visit historic locations where Hollywood's spookiest ghosts still dwell, hunt for hidden messages and create your own video masterpieces, "Blair Witch"-style, that will be premiered for all to see on the big screen -- or should we say, on the big SCREAM? Then stay for the award show and screening of The Lost Boys and The Goonies.

The historic Egyptian Theatre, a Hollywood landmark since the 1920s, celebrates the 75th anniversary of legendary Western film studio Republic Pictures' founding with a double feature. In addition to Roy Rogers in 1938's Under Western Stars and Gene Autry in 1939's South of the Border, this celebration features a pair of short films, plus live performances by Western entertainers. I have done scavenger hunts with Urban Race and loved those so I decided to do this one. I loved this one so much more. I liked the use of technology. Wiseguys, company that did the event, used an application called BeeTagg which allowed us to take pics of these bar codes which then took us to a web page which gave us a clue as well as two additional locations. Along the way there were puzzles to be solved, videos to create, or pics to take to score extra points. At the end, all of the videos that were created by all of the teams were shown on the big screen, and awards were given out for fastest time, highest overall score, and most creative. My team took highest overall score. There were also face-off challenges where you could challenge another team to score more points. The scavenger hunt lasted two hours, and then there was a break for dinner before the awards ceremony and screening of The Goonies and The Lost Boys. It was a lot of fun racing up and down Hollywood Blvd. I would do an event with the Wiseguys again. We really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone if you are looking to do something out of the ordinary.

It's closer than Knott's, it's funner than the Queen Mary, and it's scarier than anything on Hollywood Boulevard. Bring a team or meet new friends and play the Haunted Hollywood Movie Game. Frights, camera, action! All ticket buyers must e-mail for special pre-event information. One team member must have a smart phone (blackberry, iphone, palm pilot) that can download an app to play the game. If you do not have one, you will be assigned to a team that does. The producers will e-mail you additional information about downloading the app in advance of October 17. Everyone can play!
The Goonies, 1985, Warner Bros., 114 min. Dir. Richard Donner. Sean Astin, Ke Huy Quan, Martha Plimpton and Corey Feldman embark on a daring adventure that somehow weaves dirt bikes, bank robbers, pirate maps, James Bond-esque gadgetry, Joe Pantoliano and a super-powered mutant named Sloth into a fantastically fast-paced movie! The screenplay by Chris Columbus (GREMLINS), based on Steven Spielberg’s story, does not talk down to kids.
The Lost Boys, 1987, Warner Bros., 97 min. Dir. Joel Schumacher. Jason Patric and little brother Corey Haim move to a California coastal town with their mother (Dianne Wiest), only to find it infested by a gang of teenage bloodsuckers led by Kiefer Sutherland. Joel Schumacher directs this bizarre, spooky and often funny hybrid of the brat pack and vampire genres.
The films will begin at 8:00 PM following The Scavenger Hunt award presentation and screening of highlights from the game. The audience will help determine the winners.
