Improvatorium, the company that brought you Zombience and Hitchcocked, brings you Pure Improv, a hilarious short-form improv show at Theatre Asylum. With long-form improv currently in fashion, Improvatorium returns to improvised scenes, songs, extended scenes, and traditional improv games that are now almost considered retro. The show is directed by Patrick Bristow (Ellen, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Who's Line is it Anyway?) and stars a rotating cast with a new special guest each show. Learn More

I'm a big Jane Austen fan and have now seen the show twice - the only thing keeping me from giving it four stars is that I've found that the performances are quite uneven. Some of the actors are quite talented and sharp with their improv skills, while others fall flat and are decidedly unfunny (taking the show into a dramatic direction rather than a comedic one as it should). The first night I attended was quite a bit funnier than the second. That being said, the storyline is COMPLETELY different from performance to performance, so I'm still itching to go back and see what they come up with! A very fun way to spend a couple of hours, especially for fans of anything Austenian.Written on Nov 17 2008

Had a great time and the actors did too. The improv part was especially funny when Mr Lane took a riff on Georgeanne's hair, or lack thereof. They did a lot with no set changes and very few people.Written on Dec 09 2008

Description
February 14 at 11pm: Special Late Night gender-switch show!
Impro Theatre and C.A.F.E arts present a one-time only Jane Austen UnScripted gender switch late-night performance on Valentines Day. This is the same critically acclaimed improvised Jane Austen, but with a twist: the gentlemen will play the ladies and ladies will portray the gentlemen. Price include a glass of complimentary champagne and cookies. The essence of Austen’s brilliant and timeless romantic comedies and social satires is brought faithfully to life by this expert team of funny and gifted actors, whose recent explorations of great literary figures include Shakespeare, Dickens, Sondheim, and Tennessee Williams. Impro Theatre is an unscripted repertory theatre company. Since 1988 Impro Theatre (formerly LA Theatresports) has brought innovative unscripted theatre to Los Angeles and the world. The company has performed at festivals from Amsterdam to New Zealand receiving standing ovations, critical praise and first place awards. The company's goal is to take the core narrative and style elements of great playwrights and writers and create a new play using nothing but the essence of the author's work and an audience suggestion.
