There is no one else in the world like Kurt Elling. He makes every moment, every specialized note that he sings absolutely amazing. His BAND is to DIE for! I hope he hurries back!
Catalina is beautiful, roomy, great acoustics. Linen tablecloths, the food was FANTASTIC!!
Thanks Goldstar:)

Great show, Roy Hanes was fabulous; what an evening! And our luck that Christian McBride came up and sat in for several numbers; seriously, he is the finest bass player I have heard in years. Good service, great sound, perfect night out.

This place was awesome! As we were driving up, it looked a little shady. But once inside, it was really cool. There was great music and we had good seats. The food was pretty pricey, though. We didn't order and drinks and our bill was still $100. Next time we go we'll just get drinks and not order food. They say that if you make dinner reservations you get better seats, but it didn't seem like that was really the case. But, the music was great!

this place is easy to get to and you can park on the street or in their garage for a nominal fee of $6. I always have a great time when I go here as the artists are so close and accomodating! Order your drinks together then you can just relax. I'll get a pelligrino and a wine and just enjoy the ambiance! We closed down the joint that night! Great time especially with the GS discount!!

I thought that the ambiance was just alright. The music wasn't that great. Especially compared to Jazz Clubs in New York such as the one in the Time Warner Building. Over all I wouldn't recommend this.

i was upset to say the least. the parking was horrible and $10, the waiters were unfriendly and still wanted tips, and here is something they dont tell you: 2 DRINK MINIMUM EACH PERSON!!!
my girlfriend and i got two waters each and it only came out to $22!!! the band was alright but i am definitely not attending again!

The band was smokin', but Mr. Hubbard should consider putting the trumpet back in the case. I wish they had billed it as a tribute birthday party or he had agreed to just act as a bandleader; he is unable to play professionally, in my opinion. I'm not saying this to be malicious, and I have nothing but the greatest admiration for Mr. Hubbard and his place as one of the finest musicians in the history of jazz, but he should be gently dissuaded from continuing as a soloist. The show was a very good show, and the rest of his band was tight and focused, but Mr. Hubbard was all over the place (and I don't just mean musically).
Also, would someone tell the doorman/waiter/whatnot that sweatpants are inappropriate for a jazz, dinner club.

The show was great. However, I would eat dinner somewhere else before the show. The service was confusing, bringing the wrong order and taking a long time before bringing the correct one. No apologies were given for their error.

Jane Monheit can do no wrong. Her performance was heartfelt and moving. I really enjoyed her impromptu cabaret tune. Michael Kanan was also stellar. The friendly and helpful staff is a bonus. The audio and lighting were both fine which is rare at a live performance. Jane has a great stage manager.

Amanda McBroom is a giant in cabaret and she did not disappoint. There are so few small venues like this in L.A. -- small being a GOOD thing, as in intimate. We had very decent seats (except for a post that ALMOST obstructed my company's view of the stage; I have had better @ this venue through Goldstar), but other than that... a spectacular night of memorable music. Food is pricey -- so if that's a concern, eat first, as there's also a two-drink min above the GS tix.
GS handled very well -- name on the list, not a prob, sat right down. Let's have more Catalina/cabaret events! All in all, a wonderful evening.

This was my first time at the Catalina Jazz Club and I absolutely loved it. It has an unmistakable friendly feeling to it that I have just never experienced in any other venue. Perfect lighting, sound and service. Sony Holland and her quartet were superb. The vocals and musicians were fantastic and had the audience in a musical frenzy. All in all a spectacular evening.

This was my first visit to the Catalina Jazz Club where we had a simply wonderful time seeing Frank Sinatra Jr. in such an intimate setting. We arrived early for dinner and were seated two tables from the stage (the whole Sinatra clan was right behind us, including Nancy Sr. and Nancy). The dinner was high quality and the staff was outstanding. And Frank Jr. was outstanding. Just a terrific night.

John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey together are as good as contemporary jazz gets; do not miss this show. Witty, urbane, introspective, thoughtful, and sublime, a couple at the height of their talent--and the band is superb. Sunday is your last chance, do go, they will charm your socks off.

AMAZING.... Really the bests of jazz at Catalina's....
Really expensive place, but it's a jazz club so you have to expect it...
Only one set it's too short, you need to stay there for both the shows... so prepare yourself to spend 40-70$ (it depend if you want to eat or only to drink...

Saw Sam Harris on Saturday April 10th. One of the best live concerts I have been to recently. Yes, the drinks were good but expensive, as was dinner, but our table was great and I guess we were lucky and got one of the only good waiters who was friendly and prompt, even though we only got there 30 minutes before the show. I will definatly be back to the Catalina with friends. An expensive but wonderful evening out! Valet parking was convenient and not expensive, and the venue was really nice, just make sure not to be seated behind one of the pillers. And Sam was absolutely one of the best performers I have seen in ages... Funny, entertaining and heartfelt, moved the audience to tears. Please come back soon, Sam!

a lot of fun. My first time seeing him. Besides obviously being a wonderful singer and natural talent, Bill Henderson has a sweet and quirky persona that makes you feel inclusive as if you're sitting in his living room listening to him perform. And his band was smokin'. And all this at 83!

I'm probably one of the few in the audience who was NOT a huge Wonder Woman fan...I liked the show and covered it in my magazine, STARLOG, but wasn't addicted... However, I have become deeply addicted to Lynda Carter, the singer... She is able to take songs that are owned by others and make them hers... My favorite example is "Crazy," forever identified with Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson, but last night it belonged to Lynda... amazing! And after the show, in her dressing room, Lynda was just as delightful and real as she is on stage. Kerry O'Quinn, Hollywood

An overall good performance from Mr. Benoit and the band for over an hour.
BTW, Catalina Bar and Grill is a good place to catch live shows because it is an itimate setting. I was able to meet and greet Mr. Benoit in between shows while he was visiting a couple of his friends at the table next to me.
Thanks, Goldstar!

The John Pizzarelli/Jessica Molaskey show itself rated 5/5 stars. They were wonderful.
The quality of food at Catalina, however, was mediocre and very over-priced. The service in the restaurant is downright awful. It took us forever to get served and then the food was brought out but we had to ask for napkins and silverware! This was my 2nd time at Catalina and the service seems to get worse and worse with each visit.

Goldstar Events is renowned for giving its customers what they bargained for, and Jazz at the Catalina Bar and Grill last Friday night was by no means an exception. The location was perfect--Catalina's is the ideal jazz experience right in the middle of Hollywood, but with easier parking than many places in L.A. And speaking of perfection, while some other jazz venues have their patrons sitting on lawn chairs in large studios, Catalina's actually sits you at linen-covered tables around the stage, even if you are only ordering drinks. Most importantly, the jazz was phenomenal. If Catalina's has a list of jazz musicians they go through, they certainly picked the best for the night I was there. All in all, a perfect experience. A gold star for Goldstar, and a huge thanks to Catalina's Bar and Grill.

Great Brian Blade show! Management is always nice there -- they make you feel like old friends. Sound could be a little better (if you're paying top dollar, you'd think they'd be able to ground the system a little better), waiters are not always the quickest, and can be a little intrusive. But overall Catalina's is a treasure. It's a beautiful room.

The Catalina Jazz Club is a nicely furnished venue, with room for about 30 tables, so it is a fairly intimate room. Drinks are unsurprisingly overpriced-- $5 for tea or for soda, and valet parking was $6, so for two people you should expect to pay more than $20 beyond the cost of tickets.
For a nice-- but not a fantastic-- time, you should consider coming here. I would return.

Marcus Miller is a tremendous talent backed by a superb band! I would
recommend to those attending the late show to get to the venue by 9 pm. This may be a little early for some, but it will guarantee you a front seat near the stage. By 10 pm, the line was about 100 people deep. Incidentally, the show did not get under way until a little after 11 pm., so
the wait is an enduring process.

If you ever get the opportunity to see Kurt Elling live, you must grab that opportunity immediately! This unique and soulful jazz vocalist has a breathtaking vibratory tone to his voice and his interpretation of jazz standards is unrivaled. He is definitely one of the greatest jazz vocalists of our time without a doubt! Kurt Elling's performance would have been enough; Mr. Ernie Watts ... what can be said. This man is one with his instrument and the synergy created by his sax and Mr. Elling's vocals is a spiritual experience!
Don't miss it! There are some more shows. With Goldstar, tickets are $10 each! WHAAATTTTT??? I would have paid much more. This price is simply a gift! Mr. Elling signed his latest CD for me after the set! Did I say, "Don't Miss It!"?

This concert was wonderful! Amel was spirited and beautiful; her talent is only surpassed by her presence on the stage. The Catalina Bar and Grill is lovely; the wait staff a little unprofessional. The food was delicious but there was very little of it...$30 got me a small steak, 4 shrimp, a dab of potatoes, and about 10 string beans. My husband and I had to go to Wendy's afterwards for a chaser. Great place to dress up a little and have a grown up night out.

I really enjoyed the show - the performance was top notch. However the drinks were extremely pricey- 2 couples, 2 well drinks each ( which is min. required) was over $100.00!!!. That coupled with parking cost made me think twice about the "value" of the concert!! And I am no cheap skate, just looking for value!

We had a wonderful time at Catalina Bar & Grill. Goldstar made the tickets quite reasonable. We were on the list as promised. Got pick of the best tables in the house - all covered with linen table cloths and with a great view of the stage. Food was excellent. My Steak & Scampi special was delicious and ample. Rebecca had the best swordfish - nice thick cut of fresh fish with some pasta. We split a roasted walnut salad and had Tiramisou for desert. Service was good and fast. I would highly recommend for any jazz fans or just a fun night out for anyone.

Jane Monheit was fabulous. The venue was great with a cozy feel. You can have dinner or just go for drinks to meet the minimum. Most tables have either 2 or 4 seats so you can bring some friends or just enjoy some jazz solo. There were a few singles that were seated around me there so no need for apprehension.

Amanda McBroom was fantastic. But the Catalina staff were so disorganized! It was an awful experience trying to make a dinner reservation over the phone with someone who obviously did not speak English well but acted as if she did. (And she constantly interrupted, too!) I tried to add additional people to an already existing reservation, and after 20 minutes on the phone it seemed like she finally got it. Then the night of the show, the reservation had never been updated! So we had to sit at different tables. And the man seating people at the event took forever to do anything, and didn't understand the situation re. our reservation. (Bad English? Or just dense?) Anyway - the place could really work on its system for reservations and seating.

The Marilyn McCoo/Billy Davis show was terrifficc!!
The food was good, service was OK, my drink (whiskey on the rocks) was fine--I ordered well brand and each drink was $9.00. My husband, however, ordered vodka/tonic. Waiter asked "Is Grey Goose OK?" Hubby answered "Yes" and got a weak drink for $13. With dinner, drinks, and tip, the BILL was $160 and that didn't include our show ticket cost or the parking. At least the food was good. And the music--WWOWW! They had four musicians and two backup singers with them, and they say for a solid 2 hours. If you plan ahead for an expensive night, it's well worth it --the place is beautiful, the parking covered and right next door. We'll save up and then do it again!

It was my girlfriend's birthday and wanted to take her there because she is also a musician. Since we already had dinner somewhere else we just relax with a couple of drinks and enjoyed the show. She was very happy!

The most amazing jazz performance I have seen in years!Outstanding musicians from technical and creative points, plus energy brought by Hiromi was extraordinary. Stan and Lee vibbed with her energy and the result was a magical performance.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for me and my family. We met great character actor, Ed Lauder (Girls Just Want to Have Fun/The Longest Yard)and his family, who were seated next to us. Frank Jr. didn't disappoint and his band was swinging. Richard

It was an okay show. Expected more from such a nice place. The performance wasn't even 2 hrs. Too short for the money paid.

John Patitucci Trio's set was rich and varied. Great players - great compositions. John is an incredibly skilled and interesting bass player, as were the sax player and drummer.

THe jaxx band was excellent. The singer sounded nothing like his father, Frank Sinatra. The atmosphere was sexy. I enjoyed it very much and would definately go back.

My two friends and I came to see Frank Sinatra, Jr. He put on a very good show. Seemed more relaxed than usual but did not interact at all with fans before or after the show. In fact he walked quickly past people who said, "Hi Frank" which he ignored. Maybe he's just shy. Would have loved to tell him how much we enjoyed his show. Would definitely go to see him again. His set had many great songs and his band is top notch. Great atmosphere at the Catalina. Have been going there for years and always have a wonderful experience. Food is excellent, atmosphere very relaxed and intimate.

As close as you'll get to seeing ol' blue eyes himself. Frank Jr. honors his dad's original arrangements and covers his biggest numbers, including "I've Got You Under My Skin," "New York New York," "Luck Be A Lady" and "Strangers In The Night." The band was exceptional. Highly recommend.

Marilyn Maye has energy and chops to spare. Her show was amazing with a wonderful compilation of ballads as well as a Mercer medley. Catalin Bar and Grill Maitre D' extended sincere courtesy to us. We were given a front row table. Just a marvelous show and venue. Inge

I saw Dick Gregory and Mort Sahl at the Catalina Jazz Club on Sunday night. Dick Gregory on Friday night said about Michael Jackson, “Where else but in America could a poor black child from Gary, Indiana grow up to be a rich white man?” He left that out of the Sunday show because Michael's father Joe Jackson had a front table in the club that night. Gregory who is a friend of the Jackson family, held up a program of Michael's second funeral at Forest Lawn from the day before when he was really buried, and lauded Joe as good father whose children turned out well. Mort Sahl's set included a very funny reminiscence about director Stanley Pollock bragging to Sahl that his art collection contained work from Roy Lichtenstein's best year. What a great pleasure it was to see both of these comic icons perform this past weekend.

Dick Gregory and Mort Sahl are some of the great comic and philosophical geniuses of our time, and it was a rare treat to see and hear them both at the same time at Catalina's. Thanks to Goldstar, we had great seats and the show was one of the best of this type I've seen.
