A short distance from the capitol sits Medieval Times' stately Baltimore Castle, where you can gather with family and friends for an 11th century feast and live jousting tournament. Eat a delicious four-course meal of chicken, potatoes and more (vegetarian options available), using your hands, just like they did in medieval times. While you're enjoying your food, you'll be cheering for one of six noble knights who take to the arena on horseback, competing in jousts, hand-to-hand combat and displays of horsemanship as part of an exciting story set in medieval Spain. And the fun doesn't stop there. Medieval Times also features an excellent bar, dance floor, Hall of Arms displaying medieval artifacts and a medieval torture museum. Knighting ceremonies are also performed pre-show. Learn More

Once again, the LA Wine Fest fails to "get it right", and in some cases, appears to be purposefully vague in it's advertising, compared to so many other similar, well-run events offered through Goldstar. On the plus side, there were plenty of friendly, accessible wine merchants and beer/spirit purveyors on hand, pouring a wide range of fantastic drinks, and on Saturday's event, the crowds were definitely manageable. No drinker or occasional oenophile went away thirsty or feeling scorned. And yes, it was blazingly hot and no respite anywhere- maybe one or to big sun-tents next time, but this was my third time so the desert conditions didnt come as a surprise. The two BIG negatives were: ONE, a huge disorganized mess outside the facility-- how hard is it, really, to put up a couple of signs and some rope indicating where ticket holders, non ticket holders and "willcallers" should stand? I personally left my space on line and went to the gate at 2:15 (late opening) and made that very suggestion to a rent-a-cop, who actually, to her credit, parlayed that concept to one of the organizers, and bam! someone started organizing separate lines. TWO- no food included, except cheese and bruschetta samples and one terrific vendor who actually had free salami, pepperoni, etc. How does the organizer have the audacity (or is it simply naivete?) to list a dozen "food participants", and NOT clearly state that food is extra? One would assume that as the price to this event jumps higher each year (during a recession no less) that the food is included, especially since SO MANY of the Goldstar offered events include gourmet food no less. Where were the hot dogs? Where was Border Grill? Shame on the sponsors. This is my last time, and from what I read from others, I am not alone. A shame, since it has so much potential!

A very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. The selection of wines was good and readily available.

Food choices were more limited than expected, however, and expensive based on the price of admission.

Worth every dollar! My girlfriend and I had so much fun! Barefoot gives away purple bags to carry goodies in, stop by there first! Also, we bought wine glass holding lanyards for $5, money best spent at a venue such as this. If you decide to try out the Jamaican dish, the beef jerky was tastier and more tender than the chicken. Prost!
