Over its three-decade history, the Playboy Jazz Festival has hosted the biggest names in jazz from Miles Davis to Ella Fitzgerald. 2012 marks the 34th year of the festival and will feature music from the Christian McBride Big Band, Ozomatli, Boney James, Sheila E., Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Ramsey Lewis Electric Band, Robin Thicke, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Keb' Mo', Terri Lyne Carrington and more. Held at the Hollywood Bowl, the festival offers two terrific days of music in a beautiful outdoor setting. My very first visit to the Hollywood Bowl. It is a spectacular venue. I love the outdoors and the surrounding mountains. The stage is gorgeous. I HIGHLY recommend the following:Written on Jul 04 2010
*Wear comfortable clothing, shoes/tennis shoes.
*Take the round trip Shuttle Service. It's CHEAP between $5 - $8 and the best transportation. No need to fuss to find parking, no need to pay for parking and or to wait to leave. Extremely convenient. I would not do it any other way. The shuttle service drops you right off at the front entrance.
*Bringing your own eats, treats and beverages including alcoholic is permitted. However, ONLY bring a smaller bag for these items. Seating is BENCH seating and you are shoulder to shoulder to others at the event. Not much room to stretch/move around. Including not much at all of storing your items where it is not in the way of others or yourself.
*Bring a blanket or sweater. It's a bit chilly.

The seats were in Section M2, directly in front of the stage. The performance was superb, especially since the Air Force Band was performing with the L. A. Philharmonic. Vince Gill was also very good, a nice change of pace for the performance. The advertised Fireworks Spectacular show, however, was dissappointing. I expected a better show for the 4th of July, but I have seen better fireworks spectaculars at other Bowl fireworks presentations.Written on Jul 06 2010
