Buried Child: Sam Shepard's Pulitzer-Winning Family Drama

Full Price:
$20.00 - $45.00
Our Price:
$10.00 - $22.50

Set during the rural economic slowdown of the 1970s, playwright Sam Shepard's universally acclaimed Buried Child resonates as strongly today as it did when it launched Shepard's career in 1978. A Pulitzer winner for drama, Buried Child makes for a fierce, forceful and unforgettable portrayal of the realities of the American Dream. The realistic masterpiece mixes comedy and drama, keen commentary and deep emotion in a squalid farm home occupied by a clan filled with suppressed violence, apparent unhappiness and dark secrets. Kenneth Kelleher directs this San Jose Stage Company production. Learn More

Right on point series of skits hitting just about everyone's hot buttons around man-woman relationships. the last skit was so authentically Italian (speaking as one myself) that it made the whole show worthwhile.

John Medici, who was featured in the original Broadway production, directs an excellent cast in the 40th anniversary revival at Theatre 68. The play takes a hilarious look at love and sex in the swinging (and not-so-swinging) 60's in a series of vignettes. This production uses revolving players (certain actors appear on certain dates), all of whom shone on the night we attended. Laura Julian and Robert Costanzo were particularly outstanding in the last vignette, milking every laugh for all it was worth from an appreciative audience, which included the play's authors, Renee Taylor and Joe Bologna, as well as another of the original production's stars, Candice Azzara. Don't miss this one!
