Hit Rock Musical HAIR Returns to Hollywood

With spirited music and colorful characters, HAIR remains an audience favorite, long after its original Broadway debut in the '60s. Indeed, the 2009 revival cast recording was Billboard's top-selling Broadway album. High-energy inspirational songs like "Aquarius," "Let the Sun Shine In," "Good Morning, Starshine" and "Easy To Be Hard" continue to stir theater audiences as they witness a "tribe" of politically-active New York City friends searching for answers in turbulent 1967. Though the long-haired bohemian companions may look different in style from today's youth, they face the same essential struggle to separate from their parents, define themselves in society, and stand by their personal beliefs in the face of pressure to conform. Award-winning production company theTRIBE performs this electrifying musical, whose original cast recording was America's top-selling album for 13 weeks. Learn More

A very creative story, and very well acted. I highly recommend it. The theatre was comfortable and well-kept, something that I don't always find true of small, local theatres.Written on Jan 24 2011

Venue: Informal, very small venue, theater style sitting, very clean.Written on Feb 15 2011
Customer Service: There was no one to get tickets from or for patrons to ask questions to.
Drinks: Only water is allowed inside the theater, none for sell.
Show: Good directorial skills, most of the actors were good, a few so so. It was educational, and entertaining at the same time. However I don't think I was watching the right play...there were 5 actors, 4 audiences (2 of which were critics).

A fantastic show for Poeheads and goth/thriller theater enthusiasts alike. The playwright Matt Ritchey played fast and loose with the facts of EAP and created something new. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Mr. Ritchey had used his formidable imagination while simultaneously sticking to the facts - a new solution to Poe's mysterious death, perhaps? What we get instead is an alternate universe of events that never happened, but somehow it still gives the audience an unforgettable and often terrifying window into Poe's mind and soul. The technical side to the show is sparse and yet often brilliant in evoking mood. The acting is top-notch. Poe is terrific, and his childhood friend/host gets creepier with every scene with almost surgical precision. Chloe Whitefore's Lenore is so beautiful, haunting and tragic that I fully understand now why Poe would write The Raven in the first place. Or did he? Mr. Ritchey's script gave this Poehead a LOT to think about (when I was done getting the chills). Thank you El Centro Theatre!Written on Feb 08 2011

Description
A World Premiere Thriller!
Once upon a midnight dreary, Edgar Allan Poe visits the weathered estate of his old childhood friend. What he finds is a tale of madness, addiction, and murder...
A young Edgar Allan Poe visits the crumbling estate of his old childhood friend Monty to keep him company over the weekend as the house is shuttered up for sale. But Poe hasn't come to reminisce. As the hours pass, he finds himself caught up in a web of secrets and lies from the past, from the mysterious deaths of Monty's parents to the unknown whereabouts of Monty's sister Lenore. In a series of encounters which mirror such classics as "The Fall of the House of Usher" and "The Raven," Poe must discover the truth and come face to face with his dark past.
