Good event. Great venue. Disappointed that Chad Kimball did not perform (as advertised). David Burnham was exceptionally outstanding. All the performers were pure quality with the exception of Ace Young, who was just terrible and "out of their league." Frenchie Davis sang well and definitely could command a show, but she has to study her lyrics better next time. C'mon Frenchie, people are paying for this! Second half of the evening rather fell apart - my guess was a time filler for the missing Chad Kimball. All in all, the audience came away having enjoyed themselves.Written on Sep 21 2011

Some thoughts on last night's show, Leading Men of Broadway, at the Ford Amphitheater. Chad Kimball was an unexplained no-show. Highlights were Levi Kreis's downstage rendition of Nothing's Gonna Harm You from Sweeney Todd, and David Burnham's sleepy version of Defying Gravity. Ace Young looked like he didn't belong there, and the segment of self-written numbers from each of the boys was ill-advised. But the highlight of the evening, unexpectedly, came from Mistress of Ceremonies Frenchie Davis, who's reading of I am Changing, her show-stopping number from Dreamgirls was breathtaking. And as she belted out the song, the fireworks from the Hollywood Bowl across the way illuminated the sky, creating one of those magical theater moments that we dream about attending.Written on Sep 18 2011
