<p>This production will feature over 25 blue13 dancers, along with live musicians and 20 background actors. Paheliyan: The Story of Alice will feature music from Tej Gill DJ Rekha of Basement Bhangra, Grammy Award-winner, John Proulx and Dhol Nation playing live drums.</p>
<p>Prior to the show each night, starting at 6:00pm, the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre will be transformed into a Bollywood Bazaar. Bangles, beads, incense, henna, male belly dancers, stilt walkers, Indian monkeys, break dancers, fire hula hoopers, aerialists, Indian peacocks, fire sword throwers, live music, Indian food and drinks, Indian garlands, and more await! It’s a fun event for the whole family.
The cast will include: Kory Keith (of Los Feliz) as Alice; Arun Mathai (of Hollywood) as Brown Bunny Rabbit; Achinta S. McDaniel (of Venice) as The Queen of Hearts; Marisa Cleghorn (of Venice) as Madhatter; Camille Cardinale (of Brentwood) as The Groom and The Cheshire Cat and Students and Apprentices of The Blue School and blue13 dance company performing in ensemble scenes.
Production personnel will include: Achinta S. McDaniel, Choreographer; Arun Mathai, Assistant Choreographer; Mia Torres, Technical Director and Set Designer; Tony Shane, Lighting Designer and Musical Director Tej Gill of Gillometer Music.

Achinta S. McDaniel (Artistic Director, Choreographer and The Queen of Hearts) is a pioneer of contemporary East Indian dance in the United States. A prolific choreographer, performer, and instructor, McDaniel’s unique and fresh style of movement ranges from ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap, and hip-hop to Bollywood, Bhangra, and classical Indian Kathak. She has worked as a leading choreographer both on stage and on camera in Los Angeles and New York for many years, and recently choreographed the soon to be released feature film, “It’s a Mismatch.” In 1999, she founded her contemporary dance collective, blue13 dance company, and has since enjoyed success in creating live Neo-Kathak, Modern, Bollywood and Bhangra style dance from coast to coast. McDaniel is the premiere Indian Dance Instructor in Los Angeles, teaching her signature Bollywood.Bhangra.Beats and many other dance classes with The Blue School all over the Los Angeles area.
blue13 made its debut at the Ford Amphitheatre in September 2006 with a Sold Out performance of Karishma. The company was founded in 1999 with a roster of four dancers. The company is now 25 strong. blue13 dance company’s programming is essential to the arts and arts education, exposing audiences and students to Indian dance in its many forms. For eight years, the company has performed nationally, both onstage and on screen, in a variety of genres, including classical Indian Kathak and Bharatanatyam, Bhangra, Bollywood, and Modern Dance.
