The opener Dustbowl Revival is a local band I had never heard before and they were terrific with lots of energy. Intermission was a reasonable length, not too long, and then the highlight was seeing Preservation Hall Jazz Band. What a fabulous show with multi-talented band members. They had the audience on their feet clapping to the beat. There is a diverse age range among the members of the band which was nice to see. Some of the musicians joined the band in the 80's and 2 veteran members were called up to join in on a few numbers. Some musicians joined more recently and all were just great. Having just returned from a trip to New Orleans 5 weeks ago and hearing live jazz at Preservation Hall, gave this concert all the more meaning. I also have family ties to the Hall.
The Ford Theatre is the perfect size with not one bad seat in the house and parking for $5 is a bargain and so easy. I haven't been to the Ford in 20 years or more and forgot what a wonderful venue it is. I plan to frequent it this summer when I'm not at the Bowl!
