It's an amazing night when Oingo Boingo's own Steve Bartek, Johnny "Vatos" Hernandez, John Avila and Sam "Sluggo" Phipps, along with other guest musicians, return to the stage with Bartek's new project, a jazz - chaos - improvisation ensemble named Relative. Performing with them is the retro-weirdo cabaret ensemble Ego Plum & the Ebola Music Orchestra, whose carival-style tunes are paired with live video projections.

As expected, Relative "wow-ed" the audience, snaking through complex musical passages, wild, dance-able rhythms and impressive, musical solos... the band is tight and plays with passion, varying the texture and tempo of the music, taking the audience on a musical journey that ended with high energy! Highly recommended! Ego Plum led his Ebola Orchestra through a tight set that showed a depth beyond simple pop conventions, like a mad genius in his lab, putting the band (and the crowd) through their paces... It was a great night out with great music and a fun, inclusive audience!

More Information About Relative (members of Oingo Boingo) & Ego Plum and The Ebola Orchestra

Description

About Relative:
Steve Bartek is best known for both his work as an orchestrator on dozens of popular film scores and for his guitar work with the seminal post-punk/new wave group, Oingo Boingo. Now, with a little help from Boingo alumni, Johnny "Vatos" Hernandez, John Avila, Sam "Sluggo" Phipps, among other guest musicians, Steve Bartek returns to the stage with his jazz/chaos/improvisation ensemble: RELATIVE. Combining their collective influences of early Jazz, to Bop, to Raymond Scott, to Movie Scores, Steve & co. intend to bring a unique portrait of eclectic calm and confusion to the Safari Sam’s stage.

About Ego Plum and the Ebola Music Orchestra:
In the spirit of Kurt Weill, Oingo Boingo, Carl Stalling and the Residents, this retro, weirdo cabaret ensemble - the brainchild of Los Angeles songwriter Ego Plum - offers up  a mind-numbing multimedia performance in which their carnival-esque tunes are performed in sync to live video projection. Ego Plum and the Ebola Music Orchestra perform in support of their debut album, "The Rat King."
