Rhythm & Roots benefit concert aims to unite the world's diverse cultures through the performing arts. The concert takes place in the lovely outdoor setting of the Ford and features Grammy-winning soul singer Macy Gray ("I Try"); the acclaimed Keshet Chaim Dance Ensemble, an L.A.-based Israeli contemporary dance company; and the Lula Washington Dance Theatre, an African-American contemporary dance company. They'll be joined by vocalists MC Lyte, Israeli pop star Harel Skaat, and R&B artist Abraham McDonald, the winner of The Oprah Winfrey Show's karaoke challenge. With the Agape International Choir also performing, this evening of music and dance on a starlit, end-of-summer evening promises an unparalleled night of entertainment. Net proceeds aid local non-profit youth arts organizations. Gates open early for picnicking in the terraced entryway -- bring your own food and drink or enjoy the venue's many concessions.

With Macy Gray as a headliner, I expected her to come out later and to sing more than 2 songs. She was awesome as expected, but I expected more. Harel Skaat has me as a new fan. And, so does Abraham ? (the Oprah contest winner). The Agape choir was fabulous. All the dancers were great. It was a great event to unite African American and Jewish culture. Loves every minute, but needed more Macy songs ;-)

Every act was good because of the sheer talent and effort by most of the performers. I was a little disappointed that at the time I purchased my ticket, there was no mention that five or six songs would be done in a foreign language. That said, the young man who sang in Hebrew still had a great and soothing voice.

Started late, so I was put off from the get go. It was not reported to be what it really was and I was not prepared for a benefit/coalition/unity program that it was. Frankly, I got a bit bored with repetitiveness of the program. Went too long for my tastes.
