Over its three-decade history, the Playboy Jazz Festival has hosted the biggest names in jazz from Miles Davis to Ella Fitzgerald. 2012 marks the 34th year of the festival and will feature music from the Christian McBride Big Band, Ozomatli, Boney James, Sheila E., Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Ramsey Lewis Electric Band, Robin Thicke, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Keb' Mo', Terri Lyne Carrington and more. She is phenomenal. Such a lovely young woman, self-assured, commited to her music, imaginative, brilliant. Both the concerts with her and with Joshua Bell were outstanding and make me proud to be a Los Angeleno and Hollywood Bowl fanatic. I always tell visitors that the Bowl is the most unique place in Los Angeles--and I believe it. We are so very, very fortunate to enjoy the kind of weather, the low-priced tickets, the wealth of talent, the ongoing involvement of both the LA Phil and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, right in our back yard. No need to attend a one or two-week festival abroad or in some lovely rural or urban area in the U.S. We have so much to be grateful for, and I am!
