A large focus was on the fact that the strings of a harp went across the entire theatre however when it was played, other instruments were also played and I couldn't really hear the harp. The ensemble was having such a good time that it was difficult not to enjoy their enthusiasm, but I didn't connect with the abstract vocals and dance. It was definitely creative, I('ll give it that.Written on Sep 16 2011

This was an amazing show! Extremely diversified, multimedia, music, dance, varied instruments and talented individuals. We had never been to the Ford before and it was very nice. We ate tacos from the Vermont serving there and they were very good. The venue sized harp was great! THey even incorporated dance in the playing of the harp! Thank you for the opportunity.Written on Sep 17 2011

This was a very eclectic event. The music was avant-garde, performed by skilled multi-instrumentalists, some of them were even great dancers. There was a nice combination of music, modern dance and light that made the whole show into a great experience. The only thing that I didn't like so much was the choice to have the singer songwriter come perform in the middle of the show. He had a beautiful voice and his songs were outstanding, but in my and my friends' opinion didn't match the rest of show and actually distracted from the overall energy.Written on Sep 17 2011
I would definitely go see the singer/songwriter, but in a different venue, for a different show.

Description
String Theory, a cutting-edge ensemble of dancers and musicians world renowned for its signature harp (or Curve Harp) installations which transform environment/architecture into visually stunning beautiful-sounding instruments, will perform an evening of eclectic music, video installations and dance at the Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood. The harp will extend the entire length of the theater, over the audience, setting them inside the instrument.
The ensemble will premiere new works and present a collaboration with special guest David Poe, who will also perform his own music. The event promises to be a thrilling evening of music, dance and performance art. String Theory will premiere their latest film collaboration with filmmakers Shane and Sean McAllen (Mission of Monkeys). The film will be presented with a live score by String Theory.
String Theory accompanies their harps with cello, Theremin, violin, saxophone, bass, guitar, keys, saw, accordion, tablas, flute, samples, a myriad of exotic and invented percussion, and vocals. Their music ranges from 15th century Renaissance to rock, electronica and experimental.
Contemporary dance is woven into the performance incorporating the large-scale instruments and the dynamic landscape that is created by the installations.
The evening will also include a special performance by students in the Education Through Music program which serves disadvantaged youth in the LA area. Audience members are encouraged to bring unwanted cellos, guitars or violins to the event to donate to the organization.
Earlier this year, String Theory sold out at the Eli & Broad Stage in Santa Monica. They perform at events around the USA and abroad including the Grammys, Walt Disney Concert Hall and the World Festival of Sacred Music.
