This is a play where you feel like you're living the story instead of watching it from the wings. The characters are great, they seem to spring from one night stands that Woody Allen had with all the Looney Tunes. And during this season, I'm grateful knowing that Thanksgiving at my house won't be "That Bad". Hey, I could be related to "those guys!" We had a great time! Thanks goldstar.Written on Oct 29 2004

Description
The Inkwell Theater presents the world premiere of Michael Gianakos' The Architect of Destiny, winner of the company's Bob Weiskopf Award, at the Zephyr Theatre. Directed by Mark L. Taylor ("Home Free," "Laughing Wild"), the play stars Simon Helberg ("Joey," "A Cinderella Story,"), Nick Ullett ("The Practice," "As the World Turns,") Becky Bonar, Cori Clark Nelson and Anthony Cistaro ("Friends," "Witchblade").
What do you do when your psychiatrist (Ullett) listens to nothing you say and urges you to admit you're gay even though you aren't; your hypochondriacal mother (Bonar) and spineless father (Lustig) want your therapy to be successful simply so they're not embarrassed to write the holiday newsletter; and you go on a blind date with a pathological liar (Nelson) who inserts herself into your life despite your protests? If you're Mark (Helberg), clearly the only solution is to end it all. But when Death (Cistaro) comes calling an unexpected obstacle is thrown in the path of his march to meet his maker. Much to Mark's horror, Death tells him he called his parents so they could come over and make him feel better. They arrive and, of course, have the opposite effect. Soon, Mark's living nightmare is taken to a new level when the doctor shows up, followed shortly thereafter by the blind date he can't seem to shake.
What ensues is an impromptu group therapy session lead by the good doctor. His parents, his blind date and even Death participate in an experiment in which they launch a verbal assault on Mark after the doctor convinces them he is a dangerous sociopath. In a last-ditch effort to claw his way out of his warped world, Mark finally becomes the architect of his destiny with an outcome he never saw coming.
About the Ticket Supplier: Inkwell Theater
The Inkwell theater company is dedicated to producing new works that value the writer; a company where young artists and veterans alike can work in an environment of experimentation, support, and collaboration.
In the spring 2004, the company presented Only the Dead Know Burbank by Peter Lefcourt, followed by The Architect of Destiny by 25-year old Michael Gianakos; and Tango 'Til They're Sore, written and directed by 25-year-old Matthew Hancock. The company's fourth play, Sunset Park, by Marley Sims and Elliot Shoenman, ran for fourteen weeks and was published by Samuel French. Then came Michael Halperin's All Steps Necessary, which was based on a meeting called by Hermann Goering three days after the Kristallnacht pogrom. In 2007, Inkwell produced Moment in the Sun and in 2008 Old Glories. 2011 brought the Ovation-nominated production AfterMath, starring Annie Potts.
