God's Gypsy explores the romantic and controversial life of the 16th-century Spanish mystic who became a Catholic Church reformer before she became a saint. Adapted from the award-winning Barbara Mujica's well-researched 2007 novel Sister Teresa, Coco Blignaut wrote and stars in the play, which follows Teresa from her days as a spoiled young girl sent to a convent, through her intense spiritual awakening, to her work as an influential theologian devoted to mental prayer, while also revealing her secret Jewish ancestry, risky political moves during the Spanish Inquisition and more. I liked this piece - though admittedly the second act was much better than the first. The story is engaging - acting was fine - and the sets well done. My only comment is that there were too many unneccessary scene changes and an hour and a half for the first act was way too long.

The show could use a little trimming but the detective story aspect is interesting. Performances are generally good with a few standouts, especially Jim Hanna, Ann Ryerson, and Monica Martin. The multiple-casting is occasionally confusing.
The show's running time is two hours, with an intermission.
