With spirited music and colorful characters, HAIR remains an audience favorite, long after its original Broadway debut in the '60s. Indeed, the 2009 revival cast recording was Billboard's top-selling Broadway album. High-energy inspirational songs like "Aquarius," "Let the Sun Shine In," "Good Morning, Starshine" and "Easy To Be Hard" continue to stir theater audiences as they witness a "tribe" of politically-active New York City friends searching for answers in turbulent 1967. Though the long-haired bohemian companions may look different in style from today's youth, they face the same essential struggle to separate from their parents, define themselves in society, and stand by their personal beliefs in the face of pressure to conform. Award-winning production company theTRIBE performs this electrifying musical, whose original cast recording was America's top-selling album for 13 weeks. Learn More

A thought provoking play very well directed and performed. Kudos to CB Spencer in the lead as Dana and the rest of the cast as well. Highly recommended.Written on May 05 2008

Seriously funny. The playwrite lampooned everything from our mental health & insurance systems, to how fine art is reviewed, sold & assessed. Then she took on the dubious joys of attaining the highest levels of a coveted field, be it art, dance, or sports.Written on May 01 2008
All cast members were competent in their roles. Most played dual roles. Jerry Lloyd who was not particularly enthusiastic as the artist's boyfriend, became thoroughly convincing as a psychopath dispensing veteran advice to those with lesser mental illnesses such as substance abuse, and failed suicide attemps.
Ferrell Marshall was equally wonderful as both as the gallery owner and psych ward doctor. You could barely recognize her from one role to the next, and it was more change of demeanor than costume.

The acting was outstanding. The premise of the play was ambitious, but taken at its face value, it lacked the grip on the audience.Written on May 26 2008

More Information About The Sweetest Swing in Baseball
Description

In this hauntingly funny play, Rebecca Gilman (The Glory Of Living, Spinning Into Butter) takes aim at contemporary America's love/hate relationship with success -- how we define it, what we do with it once we have it, and how we cope with the loss of it. An up-and-coming painter, Dana Fielding is caught up in the swirl of the New York art scene. As she struggles against the hypocrisy, jealousy and commercial demands of the art world, she is overtaken by self-doubt, paranoia and fear. After an unsuccessful suicide attempt, Dana lands in a psychiatric hospital. Threatened with having to confront the demons of the outside world when her insurance money runs out, she fakes multiple-personality disorder, taking on the persona of troubled baseball star Darryl Strawberry. What begins as a scheme to extend her stay in the institution transforms into a very real struggle with personal identity, as Dana rediscovers her artistic voice, but loses her sense of self. Rebecca Gilman has an unerring talent for exploring the dark side of our culture with humor and humanity, and The Sweetest Swing In Baseball is a clever, sometimes painful look at the fragility and disposable nature of celebrity.
