El Centro Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
In this haunting and sometimes hilarious play, we meet three women facing and embracing life's travails and disappointments. With his trademark wit and lack of sentimentality, Albee creates an unblinking portrait of contemporary women -- how they live, how they love, what they settle for and how they die. Three Tall Women is an electrifying examination on loss and our ability to go on.

If you don't like thought plays, if you do not like studying the path of life, if you do not like looking too far ahead or the proposition that your opinions now may not be yours in 20 years.... and if you don't want to stare at the inevitable collapse that life is aimed at, you may dislike this play. If you like superb acting, gallows humor and a dry eyed look at reality then this may be your kind of experience.
I lost track of Albee decades ago and considered him someone who was all the rage of in the post Absurd or something like that. It is nice to see that that was wrong. This excellent work performed by 3 fine actresses on a static set for 2 hours is the counter argument to all action in theater. They just talk. Held together by the riveting Eve it is a treatise on mortality and illusion in the current age. When are we happiest? Do things get better or worse? Are we always self deluded? Does it matter? If this is life why bother? Then again why not bother? You won't get answers from Albee unless you believe that ending is it. Then again do you expect answers except from charlatans and hucksters? Just like the Tall Women we are stuck with what is. Might be a good reason to go see a good play.

Really a 3.5 for me. I liked this VERY much.
I have no time to write this review at the moment.
Have to write it at a later time.
In brief: Outstandingly written, well-acted, lovely set design.
Those of you who need action, get it at some other location.

FABULOUS FABULOUS FABULOUS -- thought provoking, poignant, funny - incredible acting, especially the elderly tall woman. If you are afraid of growing old and don't want to face 'the end" this play might be too confronting. It certainly made me think of my mother's decline with dementia, but not in a morose way. Truly a wonderful performance and play.
