The Earth moves us, through space and time. In this, their seventh season at the Ford, Viver Brasil puts their Feet on the Ground/Aiyê, excavating the roots, rhythms and spirits of Brazilian culture. Guest musician José Ricardo Sousa provides the soundscape with vocalist Katia Moraes for the riveting choreography of Rosangela Silvestre with projected backdrops.
Viver Brasil Dance Company
The multi-award-winning Viver Brasil Dance Company creates riveting and passionate Brazilian dance to explore ancient and contemporary art forms and spiritual strength of Brazilian culture. Under the guidance of co-artistic directors Luiz Badaró and Linda Yudin, VBDC has developed a body of work that fuses passionate Afro-Brazilian dance, stunning costumes, and exuberant live percussion and vocals.
VBDC has performed in numerous venues: Paradise Performing Arts Center, Chico World Music Festival, Hollywood Bowl, UCLA's Royce Hall and Walt Disney Concert Hall. VBDC residencies include: University of Capetown, Brazil-Africa Connection Festival at Florida A & M University, University of North Carolina- Charlotte, UC-Riverside, and North Carolina A & T University.
The company received the prestigious Lester Horton Dance Award for outstanding achievement in a company performance/non-western dance. The company furthers its commitment to increasing awareness of the rich history of Afro-Brazilian dance and music through performances and residencies in scores of elementary and high schools, on college and university campuses and on the concert stage nationally and internationally.
VBDC receives support from the Alliance for California Traditional Arts Mentoring Program, from the LA County Arts Commission, awarded two Durfee Foundation Artist Completion grants, the Amgen Foundation and from the generosity of individual and business donors.
