It's tickets to see a Disney movie in the gorgeous El Capitan theater. The only place to see those classic animated Disney movies on the big screen!

We weren't aware that it was the opening re-release of the movie. This was a bit problematic as we had our 2 young children with us having to be patient listening to a panel for 20+ minutes. It would have been nice to have been informed of this. We would have chosen another date or time where the preshow would have been appropriate for our family.

I really enjoyed the superb digitally restored presentation of this 60's animated classic. The El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood is unique because though it technically is part of the Pacific Theatre's chain, it is leased and managed 100% by the Walt Disney Company. To my knowledge outside of their theme park properties, it is the only theatre-type entertainment venue in the country which they operate like this.

Because of controlling the theatre, the company wisely decided to showcase there rarely-seen-on-the-big-screen animated classics just before they are released to DVD. There is no other commercial venue--at least here in Southern California where you can see these presentations in a fully restored movie palace with a live theatre pipe organ, cartoon short and more.

The only slight disappointment is that in recent movie engagements, Disney has seemed to forego its elaborate multi-curtain opening before the films. Hopefully they will return that part of the experience at some point in the future.

More Information About Walt Disney's "101 Dalmatians"

Description

Back in 1961, Walt Disney got a little hip with "101 Dalmatians," making use of that flat Saturday morning cartoon style that had become so popular. The result is a kitschy change in animation and story.

Pongo and Perdita are two lonely dalmatians who meet cute in a London park and arrange for their pet humans to marry so they can live together and raise a family. They become proud parents of 15 pups, who are stolen by the dastardly Cruella De Vil, who wants to make a fur coat out of them. Cruella has become the most popular villain in all of Disney films; she's flamboyantly nasty and lots of fun. But it's the dalmatians who shine in this endearing classic, particularly those precocious pups.

The January 18 @ 7pm screening will feature a panel discussion with film critic Leonard Maltin.
