Based on Green Day's Grammy-winning concept album of the same name, American Idiot is a high-energy, two-time Tony-winning rock opera featuring the songs from the album, with direction by Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), choreography by Steven Hoggett (Black Watch) and orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal). The story follows three lifelong friends -- Johnny, Will and Tunny -- as they are forced to choose between following their dreams or staying in the safety of the suburbs. Popular songs from American Idiot include "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "21 Guns," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," "Holiday" and the title track, which was nominated for four Grammys when it was released in 2005. My 13 year old son rocked out to the hysterical and clever satirical lyrics of Weird Al...and enjoyed every minute! Two hours of non stop brilliant stuff...and he doesn't stop for a minute, except to change costume! Played the new stuff and many of the oldies!!! Would love to see him again!!! Rock on, Al!!!
Weird Al’s mastery of pop-culture parody has been a constant in the music industry for more than three decades. He is the biggest-selling comedy recording artist of all time, and his hit singles such as “Eat It,” “Smells Like Nirvana,” “Amish Paradise” and “White & Nerdy” have garnered him international acclaim. He recently added “NY Times Bestselling Author” to his list of accomplishments with the publication of his children’s book When I Grow Up (HarperCollins) – the app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has just been released. His 2006 album Straight Outta Lynwood featured the Platinum-selling Billboard Top 10 single “White & Nerdy,” the video of which has been viewed on the web over 100 million times to date and spent two months at #1 on iTunes. On Saturday, October 1 at 9:00 pm Comedy Central will premiere “Weird Al” Yankovic LIVE! – The Alpocalypse Tour, a one-hour special, followed 3 days later by the release of the unabridged version in both DVD and Blu-ray formats.
