Each year, the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center searches for the future of local choreography by inviting teenage choreographers to submit their work, which is then evaluated by a panel of Houston dance professionals. Now a number of those pieces have been chosen to be performed at this year's fifth annual Houston Choreographers: Generation Next Gala Concert. These promising young choreographers come from Bellaire High School, Lamar High School, St. John's School and Klein Oak High School. The concert will also include guest performances by Ballet Jeté, an 18-dancer company under former prima ballerina, ballet mistress and choreographer Milena Leben, and Hannah Kay, a student at Bellaire High School. Enjoyed the movie and grateful that the ERJCC provided this opportunity to view the movie. The reaction of the crowd made the event even more enjoyable. Two suggestions for improving this event. 1. Remind attendees to silence their cell phones--at least 5 different cell phones went off during the movie and rang and rang. 2. Too many late attendees were allowed in after the movie started and the only seats were in the front row. They stood in the dark looking for limited seats and were blocking the subtitles--kind of crucial for understanding a movie spoken in Hebrew.
Running time for the film is 90 minutes.
