The San Francisco-based, internationally acclaimed Alonzo King LINES Ballet company fuses ancient stories and songs with contemporary ballet in its Houston debut performance, featuring the works Scheherazade and Resin. An innovative re-envisioning of the ancient collection of Persian, Sanskrit and Arabic stories that is One Thousand and One Nights, the company's exciting, immersive take on Scheherazade was originally commissioned to inaugurate the centenary of the legendary Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo. Resin moves from intimate duets to the flashing, barely visible footwork of a quartet of dancers as King explores the possibilities of the vast and diverse field of Sephardic music, utilizing rare archival field recordings and Judeo-Spanish songs by early-music artist Jordi Savall. About the Ticket Supplier: Bayou City Performing Arts
Bayou City Performing Arts (BCPA) was founded as the Montrose Singers, Inc. in November of 1979. Led by founding director Andy Mills, the Houston based men’s chorus met with early successes marked by lavish productions at the Tower Theatre, performing with as many as 80 singing members. The BCPA family of choruses has expanded to include Gay Men’s Chorus of Houston (GMCH), Bayou City Women’s Chorus (BCWC), Bayou City Chorale (BCC), and Bayou Rhythms. 2010/2011 marks BCPA’s 32nd anniversary of continuous performances. BCPA has been termed “the best face of diversity in Houston,” widely respected for community leadership in inclusion and diversity, and continues to provide opportunities for a wide range of Houstonians, fulfilling its mission of excellence in music – coupled with unity and pride.
