Large Animal Games, the newest play by Steve Yockey (Cartoon, Sleepy), takes a skewed but incisive look at sex, love, relationships and self-delusion by examining the romantic lives of several couples and the man who supplies each of them with intimate apparel. These modern day couples are old enough to know better in love, but still naive enough to mess things up anyway. Through a mixture of bullfights, big-game hunting and intimate apparel, perhaps they'll learn a few new things about relationships.

I thought this was a pretty insightful play. It was intelligent and fun. There was the one character who was a bit heavy-handed. She was mostly monologue, and I can't figure out if it was the dialogue or her acting. But hers dialogue had the potential to be extremely potent and poignant, so perhaps it was the delivery because there were people laughing when they should've been crying.

About the Ticket Supplier: Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company

Mildred's Umbrella began in 2001 when local actress Jennifer Decker and poet and playwright John Harvey (Ph.D., University of Houston Creative Writing Dept.) decided to bring together a group of artists and actors to create a collaborative theatrical piece written by John Harvey. The production was a success, earning positive press attention and the attention of many other local artists who wanted to be involved in future productions, and inspired the duo to achieve non-profit status and make plans for another production.

Over the course of several years and under the energetic guidance of artistic director Jennifer Decker, Mildred's Umbrella has expanded to also staging Houston premieres of work from other playwrights and to searching out opportunities for creative collaborations with other local theater groups and artists.
