Four high-school girlfriends promise they'll be in each other's weddings come hell or high water, but they have no idea they'll still be trudging down the aisle 30 years later. Written by Jamie Wooten (The Golden Girls), Jessie Jones and Nicholas Hope, the rollicking comedy Always a Bridesmaid takes its title seriously. The story centers around a quartet of Southern gal pals: Libby Ruth, a hopeless romantic, Deedra, who's just found out her husband has a wandering eye, tree-hugging Charlie, who panics when it's time for her own marriage, and high-spirited and self-involved Monette, who's tested her friends' patience with all-too-frequent trips to the altar. This was one of the best theatrical performances that I have ever seen in Houston, Alley Theatre included. The acting was superb, the actors' timing was exquisite, and the punch line was unexpected. Bravo for Goldstar in offering community...continued
