Over Labor Day weekend, 1964, the last days of an idyllic California Point Break, confirmed loner and champion surfer Tom Bannick finds his carefree world suddenly challenged by love and a demolition crew. This musical was inspired by Dana Point's colorful past, featuring songs from Surfstory, which the Los Angeles Times hailed as "fresh, inspired, elegant, engaging and blissfully unpretentious."

Last night I witnessed a rare performance indeed. The premier performance of "Born to ride the waves" was phenomenal. The music, voices, and a truly rare thing performers who make you really believe in the characters what more can you ask for? The story is strong and well envisioned with a lightheartedness that keeps you guessing what will happen next. I must make a few individual kudos to some of these talented, good looking, and young performers.
Ladies first:
Elise Jackson as Lauren Bearmont: Is stunningly attractive, with a heavenly voice, and hearty stage presence.
Jessica Taylor as Chrissy: Is one of my two favorite characters with such beauty and genuine expressive ability she makes the show come alive whenever she sings.
Now the gentlemen:
Dustin Officer as Crablegs: By far my favorite character with a resounding voice, deeply expressive face, and genuine ability for acting he nearly steals the show whenever he is on stage. Dustin's solo song is both hilarious and slightly saddening showing some insight into the character. The duet sung with Chris Smith is stunning and too hard to describe easily by me a non writer.
James Luby as midget: What a talented young man. Strong vocals, stage presence, and absolutely amusing to watch. He will go far one day.
Chris Smith as Tom Brannick: Has a wonderful voice and very good stage presence.
overall a most wonderful show.

My wife and I looked forward to this play but left at intermission. I've viewed High School productions with better acting. The story line left much to be desired. Although this was not a positive experience, we will continue to attend plays at the library. Previously we've seen some fine productions .
THIS IS A FUN NIGHT FOR PEOPLE PRE-TEEN AND UP. LOTS OF UP BEAT MUSIC AND A GREAT PREFORMANCE. SURFING IS A BIG PART OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, SO THIS MUSICAL FITS RIGHT IN. IT MAKES YOU FORGET GAS PRICES AND HAVE SOME LAUGHS. I WOULD ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO SEE THIS .
All of you old surf bums and beach lovers will not want to miss this very entertaining, humorous and nostalgic depiction of the OC surf scene. Joseph Mulroy's music and lyrics are delightful and aptly depict the 1960s surf genre. The choreography by Marie de la Palme and Gemma Hebson is superb. This show is a must see for those who long for, "The way it was and will never be again." The girls are lookers. The guys are, well, surf bums; and there are plenty of those bitchin' long boards.
This performance had great songs. The theme was that of a "Bikini Beach Party", but quite interesting. Singers were excellent!!!
I GIVE IT A BIG 10 AND TWO THUMBS UP!
As usual my wife had to drag me out to the theatre, and this time I was glad she did. I am often asleep by intermission. Instead, I was having a wonderful time, captivated by the cool surf music, lyrics, acting, and splendid choreography. The audience response to this musical was energetic and filled with laughter. Don’t miss this one! Put on your Aloha shirt and join in the beach party.
Whoa dude, this musical is a definite four! I left the theatre in a great mood, along with the rest of the crowd. I don’t surf, however, after spending a fun filled evening listening to surf tunes and eyeing beach bunnies I am definitely up for a shopping trip to Hobie. Guess I could begin my new life style change with a skim board?
It's a energetic and nostalgic look at all the old beach movies with a cast that seemed to have great fun performing. 2 hours of entertainment in an intimate setting.
A delightful way to spend a summer day! Sit back, relax, and ride the waves [almost literally], as spiffy choreography and a talented cast sing and dance their way though the curls.
The musical itself was fine. The original, retrospective, script and the music were very good. I had a problem with the singing voices being drowned out by the band however. I recommend this event to all. There was a customer service snafu (downed computer) for which I and my friends were compelled to stand around in the lobby while cash customers were allowed to sit. This soured my experience considerably (because we had arrived early) even though the seats eventually given were fine.

I recommend this show to anyone!! the music is fun and the performers do it well, The staging and sets were also very great since it takes place on a beach. Its in a good size venue in the Huntington Beach Library and it was a sold out show when we saw it.. So get your tickets now!!
