The famed story of the princess and the pea comes to life on stage in the delightful musical Once Upon a Mattress. No one in the kingdom is permitted to marry until Prince Dauntless does -- but when a suitable candidate finally arrives, his overprotective mother concocts a secret test that the young princess must pass before she'll allow them to wed. Of course, it's hard to prepare when sleep is in such short supply, even on a stack of 20 mattresses. Will Princess Winnifred, the latest candidate, fall prey to Queen Aggravain's schemes, or will she prove more clever? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance features a score by Mary Rodgers, and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1960.
