The famed story of the princess and the pea comes to life on stage in the delightful musical Once Upon a Mattress. No one in the kingdom is permitted to marry until Prince Dauntless does -- but when a suitable candidate finally arrives, his overprotective mother concocts a secret test that the young princess must pass before she'll allow them to wed. Of course, it's hard to prepare when sleep is in such short supply, even on a stack of 20 mattresses. Will Princess Winnifred, the latest candidate, fall prey to Queen Aggravain's schemes, or will she prove more clever? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance features a score by Mary Rodgers, and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1960. Awesome musical and the cast was incredible!!! Whimisical and fun, very Dr. Seuss. Very talented young cast, all the kids were great. Great dancing and singing. Might be a little confusing for young kids because the characters are supposed to be animals but the actors are not dressed up as animals. They still look very human, it takes some imagination to see the guy in overalls as an elephant but they are all great nevertheless.
