Huntington Beach Playhouse presents the play adapted by Steven Dietz from the work of William Gillette and Arthur Conan Doyle about fiction's greatest detective. Sherlock Holmes has seemingly reached the end of his remarkable career when a case presents itself that is too tempting to pass up: The King of Bohemia is about to be blackmailed by famous opera singer Irene Adler, who happens to possess an incriminating photograph. Holmes pursues the case, and then -- having become smitten -- the affections of Ms. Adler. Doing so lands him squarely in the lair of his longtime adversary, Professor Moriarty. The play, which premiered in 2006, won an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America.

Sondheim's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum: A Hit Musical Farce

It's "comedy tonight" in Stephen Sondheim's laugh-out-loud musical farce, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Travel to Ancient Rome and experience the zany antics of Pseudolus the freedom-seeking slave, his young master Hero and the beautiful but slow-witted courtesan Philia. With such songs as "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid," "Lovely" and "I'm Calm," this slapstick comedy sings and dances its way through mistaken identities, a house full of courtesans, and an elaborate web of lies that all leads to an uproarious night at the Huntington Beach Playhouse. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and co-written by Larry Gelbart (M*A*S*H*), this timeless romp was inspired by the 2,000-year-old farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus. Learn More

Though this was a sober play, the dialogue and acting was great.

Great venue. The play started a bit late but was good after it began. Everyone played their parts well and really got into the roles they played. Sherlock dropped a few lines however everyone else was spot on.
