If you can't go to the National Theatre in London, catch one of their productions -- like A Small Family Business -- streaming live to the big screen at Irvine Barclay Theatre. Penned by Olivier Award-winning playwright Alan Ayckbourn (Bedroom Farce, A Chorus of Disapproval), A Small Family Business premiered at the National Theatre in 1987 and scored the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play. Jack McCracken's a man of principle in a corrupt world ... until he takes over his father-in-law's business. Soon after, a private detective armed with some compromising information approaches him, and Jack's integrity fades away as he discovers there are a few too many thieves and adulterers in his extended family. Really well done, smaller scale Irish music and dance production. While I have seen Riverdance, this proved that you don't need to have 4 times the amount of people in this show to make it a wonderful performance!
Highly recommend sitting in the balcony at Irvine Barclay. It is smaller, and there are good views everywhere-- especially for dance programs like this one. I could see the dancers' feet clearly the entire time.
